Chapter 1: You Make Me Right
A/N: This story continues after Mike shoots Lily Grey in episode 13.
"What have I just done," Mike said as he stared at his ceiling.
He tilted his face so that he was facing the window. Tears began to form in his bright, blue eyes. He tried to keep the tears in, but that only made it worse. Drip by drip tears slided down poor Mike Weston's face. Flashbacks stampeded him. From the video Lily Grey sent to him in which he witnessed his father get his throat slit open to what had just happened; him shooting Lily Grey who was unarmed.
He moved his hands up to his face and used his palms to rub his eyes so tears would stop. He began to become desparate and sat up on his bed. He started to gasp and wail louder and louder. He felt the world crumbling at his feet. He could see his reflection from his bedroom drawer mirror. His eyes red, puffy; his nose, dripping; his heart, broken.
His phone buzzed abruptly stopping his emotions.
Mike, Are you alright? -Max
Just by her name he began to smile. Her name. Soothing him. Her message repairing him. Max Hardy was always there for him, comforting him when he needed it. She always stood by him. When he worked on cases with her, he felt like he was going on an adventure with her. Kicking bad guys' butts and what not.
No not really. But when you just texted it helped me :') -Mike
You want to talk about it? And your welcome :P -Max
I'm fine now really. -Mike
In truth he was not fine. Even with her text, it only coped 30% of his pain.
No you are not. I'm going to facetime you, goomba. So you better pick up ;) -Max
Mike giggled at her text. Max did factime him, and he clicked 'Accept'.
"Hey," Mike said trying to make himself not sound as depressed.
Max knew that he cried due to how his eyes were puffy, his runny nose, and his hoarse voice.
"Hey. So... Let's talk. Don't pretend you are alright because by the looks of it you aren't okay," said Max with geniune concern.
"If you insist my lady," smirked Mike.
Max was truly beautiful in his eyes. Seeing her face to face definitley made him joyful. Her voice calming him. Her beauty. Max and Mike had this indirect way of communicating by how they looked at each other. Max knew exactly what Mike was thinking about.
"Come on Mike really. You are making me blush," playfully teased Max with a hint of red on her cheeks.
"Ha. Sorry can't resist how beautiful you are even if you are in bed," laughed Mike.
These two weren't neccessarily dating. They are just best friends because Mike works along side with Ryan, and Max is his niece so they work together. They loved to tease each other, it was their thing.
"You always have a why of complimenting me in every situation. Now seriously though. What's up," asked Max.
Mike lets out a big sigh. He knew Max won't stop until he lets out all of his pain.
"I've been having flashbacks and thoughts about myself killing Lily Grey and witnessing my father's death. It's just. Sometimes I can't think straight anymore. I always have nightmares of myself pulling the trigger on Lily. I knew it was inhumane for me to do so, but I could not let that bitch live after what she did. Sometimes I think to myself if I'm turning into a killer," Mike said. With every sentence he said he began to feel his eyes water. At the last sentence he let out a gasp and let his tear fall down his face.
Max too felt herself begin to tear up.
"Mike. Really. You aren't a killer. You just got your emotions the best of you, and that's totally fine. You just have to learn that revenge does not help anything. Having killed Lily Grey nothing helped. It only made you lower than her and that's the truth feelings aside. But I do know one thing that Lily Grey can't take from you and that makes you higher above her; that's your love and heart. Lily never did have a heart. Even her kids became killers working for her. Mike, you are different. You are human," said Max with emotion.
Mike literally wanted to start ball out crying. He covered his mouth with his hand to quite his wail. His eyes looked like crystal from the reflection on the phone light.
"Max....," Mike said with a hoarse voice.
"I'm here," Max said with reassurement.
They didn't talk for ages. They just looked at each other. Mike knew everything will be alright as long as they were together.
