Jordan's POV
"Jordan! Jordan! Please! Where are you?" I hear Cassidy shriek from my bedroom.
I bolt up the stairs, skipping steps and almost fall on my face as I sprint into the tan-colored room filled with miscellaneous items that my girlfriend has given me.
"Cassidy! Cass, Cass.. It's me what's wrong?" I whisper as I gently shake her from her slumber. She proceeds to wail her arms around until I grab hold of her face and her eyes focus on mine. Suddenly, her arms wrap around my waist and she pulls me onto the king-size mattress. I gently stroke her hair with my fingers as her I feel her once heavy breaths slow into calm, relaxed ones.
"Another bad dream babe?"
"Yes, and this may have been one of the most terrifying of them all. I don't know what to do about them anymore, I've tried everything! Counselors were a bust, Cutting sweets before I fall asleep doesn't work.. You're the only person that can actually take me away from these nightmares."
I lift her head up with my hands and kiss her slowly from her forehead to her lips, letting my kisses linger. We stare into each others eyes for a moment when suddenly my peripheral vision catches site of the time.
"Oh shit! I have to get to work.", I say as I scramble about my room trying to find my keys and wallet. "There are waffles on the table for you, I'm so sorry to leave you like this but a boy's gotta do what a boy's gotta do."
"It's alright babe, have a good day my sweet prince. I love you."
I run over to her and plant a giant kiss on her lips, which turns into a lingering hug that I wish I could stay a part of forever.
"Bye princess! I love you too, so much." I proclaim as I plant a final kiss on her plump lips.
Then I run out of the room, down the stairs, and jump into my car.
********
After hours of tireless working as a graphic designer for Turnstyle, I make the tedious journey home trough the Seattle traffic.
I soon arrive at my apartment to see that my favorite person in the entire world has gone off to her afternoon class. My mood instantly goes to shit until I see the note that she left for me:
Hi babyboy!
Since you're reading this, obviously you just got home from work and I hope your day was as marvelous as you are. I had to run off to my psychology class early since it is going to be a giant lecture and I need the best seat because you know me! Haha, I love you so much and I'll see you in a few hours. <3
-Cassie
I feel the stupidest grin cross my face as I finish reading. She is the only person that makes me feel happy in this world, I fucking love her.
I take this opportunity to clean around the house as much as I can, starting in the kitchen then going to the living room, then the bathroom, and lastly the bedroom.
As I finish, a phone rings but it isn't my ringtone. I scavenge around the room to find the source of the noise and see that Cassidy left her phone under the sheets. The name plastered across the screen is the only name I dread seeing more than anything, "Mom".
Since she isn't here and her mother is very protective, I decide to answer.
"Hello?"
"Cassidy? No, this isn't Cassidy. Who is this?"
"Jordan, It's Jordan, Mrs. Pristina."
"Of course it is, where is my daughter?"
"At class, she'll be back in about an hour. I can inform her that you called."
"Thank you Jordan, tell her it is urgent and that she needs to call me back as soon as possible please."
"Of course."
"Goodbye."
I hang up without another word. That woman has never liked me and I know exactly why. Cassidy comes from a very high class family and she was expected to marry some rich doctor or surgeon that would give her the "perfect life". With little to be said, dating a graphic designer wasn't something she accepted easily. Two years later, and very little progress has been made. Now her dad is a different story, that bastard is the reason she has the terrifying dreams that she does. The stories she tells me are nothing I want to get into at the moment but just keep in my mind that they were bad enough to the point where 13 years after he was locked up, she is still haunted by the memories.
I'm tired, I need to get some sleep.. I think to myself as I lay down on the bed.
********
I wake up to hands touching my forehead, the same smooth hands that I feel almost every morning.
"Jordan? Are you awake?"
As I open my eyes, they lay upon the most beautiful sight that has ever walked this Earth.
"Yes, my beautiful girlfriend. What's up?" I question as I sit up and pull her into my lap.
"I just spoke to my mom." She explains.
"Oh no! She called you earlier and I was supposed to tell you but I fell asleep, I'm so sorry." I plea.
"Don't worry about it, but her news wasn't very pleasant."
"What do you mean? Are you okay? What happened?"
"Jordan...", tears fill her eyes, "Jordan, he.. he... he's out."
"What? Who? Who's out, Cass?"
"My dad, he was let out of prison early."
