"How come father wouldn't tell us that there were other survivors then?" I asked.

"Maybe he doesn't want us to know." Tedrick said while he fiddled with the wires.

"Why would he not want us to know? Huh?" Father would never lie to us. Would he?

"Maybe he goes out and has fun with the other survivors."

"Can't he have fun here with us?" I asked.

"I don't know Cameron, but please not a word of this to anyone. Okay?"

I thought about telling mother, or auntie. But I trusted Tedrick the most out of everyone and he trusted me. So I said "Okay Tedrick, you have my word." He fiddled with the wires a bit, moving them and switching them about with little metal tweezers. It crackled a bit sometimes. Or little high pitched sounds came out of it. I was starting to get bored of all the crackling and weird noises when someone started talking from it.

"Is there someone trapped in there?" I asked.

"No Cam, It picks up people talking from far away, I think." He said. But before he could finish talking, I butted in.

"We have to go, it's five to seven. And I don't want to be late Teddy. I don't want the belt." I shrieked and ran out of the garage. Teddy quickly put down his wires and box and followed me out. He threw the door shut behind him and we bolted for the houses. We made it to the table just in time for prayer time. "Sit children." Auntie Bella said, I could still hear the loneliness in her voice since the accident. We both sat down and looked at each other. But I remembered I promised Teddy that I wouldn't say anything. So I didn't. It was a normal dinner, we ate greens and drank cold water from the lake. Simon had found a deceased rabbit in the wood so mum cooked it up and we each got a little piece of meat. It was so good.  After we finished eating we left the table and were allowed free time until 9pm. I walked back down to the garage and looked at Tedrick's contraption. Two wires were hanging loose so I tried to push them in, a small white light flashed from inside and sound crackled it's way out. It was a man's voice. I turned one of the wires over and it sounded a bit clearer. The mans voice said something about sunny and humidity and then something that startled me.

I don't know what happened but I lost it. I slid my hand across the bench knocking everything on to the floor. I grabbed the bar stool and threw it at the talking box. I turned around and ran out of the garage. I ran through the meadow, Tedrick was heading to the garage and I ran passed him at full speed tears streaming down my face.

"Cameron! Wait!" He called after me. But I didn't stop. I kept running. He must be running after me now because I can here him calling out to me, but I don't care. I can't tell Teddy what I heard. If I did him and Gracie would hate me. So I kept running towards the wood.

I ran past the shimmer and through the woods. I tripped on a root and fell head first into the dirt. My head started to pound from the impact and my eyes drooped shut. I felt someone grabbing me and yelling. But it was too late. The darkness sank in.
