Flame 4-Something Different
When I woke up the next morning Kale was still sleeping on my chest and he hadn’t moved a muscle. That startled me a little bit because Kale was usually a restless sleeper. I eased out from under him and shook out my arm that had been resting on his forehead all night. It was horribly numb from not having moved and it took a while to shake the feeling. I looked over at Kale to see his forehead creased and beads of sweat dotting his skin.
I reached over and touched his arm to find my hand covered in cool sweat. I slowly got up and hobbled down the hallway to retrieve a wet washcloth which I then placed on Kale’s forehead. I lay next to him on top of the covers and I stared at him. It occurred to me that I probably looked like a creepy stalker but I didn’t care, I was worried about my boyfriend. He was completely still except for the movement in his chest as he breathed shakily. After a few minutes I simply couldn’t stand it anymore.
I reached over and shook Kale slightly, grabbing his good arm. “Kale?” I asked as his eyes fluttered open and closed again sleepily. “Kale, are you alright?” I whispered. He reached up to rub his eyes and flinched when he tried to use his bad arm to help. He looked at me, his eyelids still fluttering sleepily.
“Hey,” He breathed groggily.
“Hey…” I whispered back. He leaned on his good side a little more, causing the washcloth to fall off of his face, and brushed a strand of hair from my eyes.
“You look good,” His voice made him sound still half asleep.
“I have bed head,” I rolled my eyes.
“I like it,” He smiled.
“You’re acting strangely.” I whispered raising my eyebrows at him confused.
“Sorry, the pain meds make me kind of tired and out of focus, Kali practically forced two down my throat last night.” He shook his head lightly as if trying to clear the fog from his brain. When he looked back at me his eyes were a little brighter and he opened them wider. “You look good,” He said more clearly.
“So I’m told…” I rolled my eyes again. “Those meds must really mess with your head,” I chuckled. He snaked his hand around my waist and pulled me into him stopping just before I smacked into his injured chest. It startled me, as I had forgotten how strong he was. I’m sure that I could still take him with neither of us injured but it would definitely be a close match. Why was I thinking about this? God I can get so distracted!
“It’s not the meds messing with my head….” He pressed his lips to my jaw line. “It’s you,” he spoke against my skin. Why was I suddenly nervous…? He moved his lips down my neck and scooted me farther up the bed so that his tongue could trail down my chest without him having to move at all.
“Kalen, knock it off.” Kale looked up at me with a ridiculous face as he still had his tongue sticking out and on my skin as he raised his eyebrows. I gently pushed his head away and chuckled. “I’m sorry but I have plans today and you need to rest.
“I’ve had enough rest, I want you!” He whined.
“Awwww….poor you. No Max for you…” I stuck my lip out mocking his pout as I pulled my pants on. He lay back against the pillows again and groaned. I just rolled my eyes as I picked up a dark blue tee from the floor. I smelled it and when it didn’t smell like shit I pulled it on over my head. I sprayed a little bit of light cologne on and ran my fingers through my hair going for that ‘just woke up’ look. I then grabbed my crutches kissed Kale on the forehead while he glared at me still pouting and then I swung out of the room.
