Chapter 5 - Underestimated
Freezer glanced at the fallen dark types, the only two left being that annoying Hydreigon and Sableye. "Give up, now." the Glaceon demanded. "I'm not afraid to Ice Beam you both into oblivion." she told them truthfully. "Fine, fine, we give up, you win! But this does not mean that the forest isn't ours, for soon, we will take it over!" the Hydreigon laughed before soaring off with the Sableye clinging onto his back. The Glaceon stretched, glancing at the Pokemon to her side. "Not gonna even bother to thank me, I see?" Freezer snorted. "I didn't have time to thank you during a battle." the Garchomp replied snarkily. "But whatever, thanks." he finally growled. "You're welcome, Dry-Scales." she told him. "Ok then, Cold-Fur." Drake replied, giving her a stupid nickname as well.
--------------------
The Glaceon fell asleep at patrol. It was nighttime and she was extremely tired, especially since that battle had drained most of her energy. She snored quietly, not snoring like a loud Snorlax. She felt a nudge and opened her eyes to see the sparkling stars. It had been Drake, informing her that the patrol was over and they had to go back. Behind them, the Night Patrol came. Freezer yawned, getting up. "I'm so tired..." she muttered, trudging along with the Garchomp. "Oh you'll live.." Drake sighed. "Tiredness can't kill, can it?" he joked. "Whatever..." the Glaceon layed her head on Drake's side for support and closed her eyes as she walked along. When she'd opened them, the moon was in her view. "I like the moon. I also like the stars. I like the night." Freezer sighed. "Oh, so that's the one thing you do like?" Drake glanced at her. "Whatever, I don't blame you. It is nice." he admitted. "I don't like being a Glaceon." she sighed. "I'd rather be an Umbreon, despite the fact that it's a dark type." the Glaceon admitted. "Well apparently you wanted to evolve into a Glaceon when you were younger." the Garchomp huffed. "What changed?" he asked. "Well, my parents were... I don't know... they wanted us to all be different." Freezer attempted to explain. "So, my father was a Leafeon named Dasi, my mother was a Espeon named Sua. There were my brothers, a Umbreon named Bureo, a Vaporeon named Ropav, and a Jolteon named Yasua. Then, there were my sisters, a Flareon named Saki and a Sylveon named Soidi. Unfortunately, I was the youngest. I wanted to be an Umbreon and change my name from Freezer to something that fit an Umbreon more. But there was already my polite brother who was an Umbreon, so no matter how hard I tried, my parents didn't let me. Then, one night, the night I evolved, something bad happened... I... I..." she suddenly started to sniffle. Drake had never seen her cry before. In fact, nobody had. Her ears lowered, tears forming in her eyes as she tried to fight them back. "Come on, you can do it." Drake encouraged her. "I... I went exploring the forest for a bit. I... sadly... I... I didn't notice that a... a Hydreigon had... followed me back home. I was too late to realize it until there was a loud crash and yelling. It was my brother and that Hydreigon... fighting... and my brother was losing... he trained a lot, but from how big that Hydreigon was, I could tell that he was at least level seventy or one hundred, at least. And then... that Hydreigon..." she broke out into tears. "...it demolished my brother. My brother that... cared so much about me, and was so kind to me and everything... gone... I ran away as soon as that happened, not wanting to see the rest. And... I guess I just bumped into Dusk and he let me into the tribe." by now, bitter tears were falling down the Pokemon's cheeks. Drake took a deep sigh. "Well chances are that idiotic Hydreigon is dead now, even though you'd probably enjoy killing it yourself." Drake tried to cheer her up. "But that still doesn't fix the fact that Bureo is dead. He's gone. Out of sight, out of mind, my mother used to tell me. And I believed that. Until that horrid scene happened. Out of sight, still in mind." the Glaceon whimpered. "I'm sure he's having fun with Arceus..." Drake grumbled. "Whatever Arceus does. For all we know he's watching us right now with popcorn." the Garchomp looked at the sky. "Heck maybe he's even with Freesia." Drake then looked at the ground, taking a huger sigh. "Freezie- who?" Freezer suddenly stopped crying, her look of depression being replaced with confusion. "Freesia. The Gardevoir? Named after a flower?" Drake tilted his head impatiently. "She's my eldest sister, she helped the tribe through a lot." the Garchomp explained. "Oh... well, how did she die?" the Glaceon asked quietly. Drake took a deep breath. "I wasn't exactly there for it, but I know. I was told she was bringing Flash.. To.. to.. A surprise." Drake halted for a moment, before continuing. "But I guess she took a wrong step, and before they knew it tons of rocks where coming tumbling down onto them. Flash was quick to get away, but Freesia wasn't so lucky. The rocks crushed her completely, it was horrible." the Garchomp looked like he could break at any moment, but he held it in. "O-oh... then, I'm sorry that that happened to her... I hope that she's having fun with Arceus in heaven..." she glanced at the sky hopefully, the stars glimmering. "I guess so." Drake grumbled. "Anyways, we should probably get back to actually focusing on the patrol." the Garchomp suggested. "Who cares, we're already at camp anyways." Freezer sighed as they stepped into their territory. "I'm gonna go get something to eat at the pile. See ya', Dry-Scales." she said before leaping away to the food pile, as she'd called it. She ate a Bunnelby in silence, thinking of her life with her family... how nice it was to hang around her brother... how great it felt to be accepted by them. Immediately, a memory flashed into her mind.
"Isn't this sight beautiful, Freezer?" her brother, Bureo, asked. "Yeah!" the Eevee exclaimed warmly, the wind blowing at her face gently. They were glancing at an eclipse in the depths of night. The sun, or moon, glowed brightly, shining down on every Pokemon who had come to see it. However, Freezer and her brother had been quick to take dibs on a giant mountainside that only an Umbreon could climb. Down below them were other Pokemon watching the eclipse with awe. Myth said that when humans glanced at an eclipse, there was a chance that they could lose their sense of sight. However, the same wasn't said for Pokemon. Their eyes and humans' eyes were different in many ways. But, enough of that, and back to the beautiful circle in the sky. A bright but also dark aura surrounded the moon-like figure. "Brother?" Freezer sighed. "Yes, Freezer?" Bureo glanced down at her. "I wanna be an Umbreon when I'm older, just like you." she told him, an Everstone in her paws. He sighed. He didn't scold her like the others did when she'd even dare ask to be a dark creature of sorts. "When I was your age, Freezer, I wanted to be a Leafeon." he admitted. "But our father was already one. I felt just like you, Freezer. Having crushed dreams, and stuff like that... and then, I became an Umbreon. I was completely crushed, now. I didn't like it one bit. I couldn't sleep at all at night because of my new instincts, and in the daytime, I felt tired, as if I had taken a sixty-five mile run." the Umbreon told her. "And then, I got used to it. I got used to sleeping in the daytime and running around in the nighttime. I got used to having a crave for blood, a soft spot for ones that killed a lot. Maybe when you become a Glaceon, it'll happen to you, too." the two layed down next to each other, Freezer's head laying on his side. "Yeah, maybe..." she yawned before she dozed off.
She'd thought of this all as she made her way to the Warrior's Den. She refrained from crying and took a deep breath before exhaling and entering. Freezer sat in the corner, keeping as far away from everybody as she could. Her reason would be because everyone had germs and were all dirty when somebody would ask her, but the real reason was because she didn't know them too closely. She was afraid. Afraid that if she knew somebody too well or stayed close to them, they'd be ravaged apart like her brother. So, she slept in the corner, where nobody else slept. I love you, brother. she thought as her vision got blurry and she fell asleep.
----------
The Glaceon woke up and yawned, stretching. The Warrior's Den was empty, as she'd anticipated. Trotting out of it, she watched as the tribe scrurried around as usual. Freezer trotted towards a shady tree and sat under it, curling up as she let out a sigh. Suddenly, she saw Wayde trot towards her, a smile on his face. She flinched. Oh no, not him. She refrained from snarling and simply lowered her ears angrily. "What do you want?" she spat when the shiny Tepig was right in front of her. "To train, silly!" he grinned wider. Freezer turned her head angrily, before huffing. "Fine." she grumbled and got up, trotting away. "What are we gonna train for, Freezer?" Wayde asked. No response. "What are we gonna train for? Hunting? Battling? Patrolling? Hm? Hm? Hm?" he then repeated on and on until she finally whipped around. "HUNTING, NOW SHUT UP!" the Glaceon snarled. Her ear flicked as she turned around to see Drake and his Pokemon in Training, Areit. "Oh, you're hunting too?" Drake turned his attention to Freezer and Wayde. "Yes." Freezer grumbled. "Oh, hey, Areit!" the shiny Tepig jumped up happily. The two chattered about, leaving the Glaceon and Garchomp to each other. "Ugh. I hate Pokemon in Training. I hate teaching. I hate this." she snorted. "You'll get used to it eventually. We are gonna have to do this until the day we die." the Garchomp sighed. "I hate Pokemon with such jumpy personalities," the Glaceon gritted her teeth. "They're SO annoying..." her ears lowered angrily. "You don't say. They never leave you alone." Drake agreed. "When I didn't reply to him when he asked me a question he just kept asking me. I wanna kill him so badly..." Freezer muttered the last part, raging. "Ha, typical of Pokemon in Training." Drake replied. "Always overly curious, constantly bugging you." the Garchomp continued to ramble. "Can we all train together?!" Wayde suddenly asked. "Yeah!" Areit asked, the Ivysaur grinning. Freezer exchanged glances with Drake. "Ugh, fine, if that makes it easier." Drake grumbled. "Too bad Berry got that leg injury from a Mightyena earlier," Freezer sighed. "I liked training her. She was timid and quiet, not loud and stupid like this." the Glaceon motioned towards Wayde, who was playing with Areit. "Ugh, Mightyenas always ruin everything." Drake huffed, glancing at Wayde. "Yeah. She was almost done her training until that stupid dark type barged in on us and attacked us. Only when it had bit Berry was when I used Ice Beam, making him drop her. I feel sorry for her. She's sitting in the Healer's Den right now, I'm sure." Freezer sighed. "She's probably getting good care right now, too." Drake added. "Yeah. Anyways, let's start training, Dry-Scales. Enough talking." her ear flicked before she halted both Areit and Wayde. "The first rule of hunting," she began. "Is to always be aware of your surroundings. Try to make use of them." Freezer advised. "Yeah! Like this!" Areit grinned before showing an example. Freezer sighed. Maybe some Pokemon weren't as dimwitted as she'd thought.
