"Can we stop taking pictures? It's my birthday not death." Alexa took a sip out of her drink, obviously there was no alcohol; they were gonna save that once the kids go home, the party started way too early and nothing's wrong with that. All of her friends were there, all except for one and she can't help but feel a bit sad. She stealthily made her way out of the crowd to find some peace.

"He'll come don't worry, go out there the alcohols are out the same as the kids" Cole nudged her, they were in the balcony of her apartment.

"I'm not sad, just getting some fresh air." She rolled her eyes and emptied her cup, Cole giving her a new one with beer.

"Like I'll believe that, you look like you're filming for an old Taylor Swift video."

"Don't make fun of me on my birthday"

"Fine, just give me a hug birthday girl." He spread open his arms and embraced her, Alexa accepted the offer and squealed when he spun her around.
If they were to be seen by a stranger he or she would think they were a couple.

"Bill, dude you're so late the kids are already gone." Bill wiped the sweat forming on his forehead and took off his jacket.

"Traffic was horrible, where's Alexa?" In his hands is a small box wrapped in blue gift wrap.

"She's on the balcony, wanna grab a beer? It's on the table"

"I'll pass." He made his way through the drunk people and disposable cups, he finally saw her familiar shade of hair but didn't noticed the figure of someone else with her.

"Hey kid!" He walked closer to her and stopped his tracks seeing the two having a moment.

"Bill you made it!" She tried to get away from Cole but all he did was retract his arms and moved behind her to continue on hugging her, resting his head on her shoulder.

"Sorry for being fashionably late but you know perfection takes time." He was trying hard to not let his jealousy show, who was he to even get jealous? They obviously knew each other better and the age gap wasn't far.

"Shut up, you just slept in didn't you?" She tapped on Cole's hand and sent him a stare saying "get out" he complied and left the balcony but not before staring at Bill smugly.

"You two looked comfortable, did I ruin a moment?" He sat on the floor; patting the space next to him, she laughed and sat down.

"You don't think that we're together, don't you?"

"You guys look like a couple."

"Nah, he just get clingy to his friends whenever he gets drunk."

"This reminds me of the time when I met you in a club."

"To be honest, I don't really remember that."

"Yeah."

An awkward silence fall unto them, they were obviously trying to say something what's on their mind but holding it back.

"I got this for you, I don't know what you would want so that's that." He grabbed her hands and put the gift there. Alexa carefully unwrapped the gift and it was another wrapped gift.

"You douche! This is one of those pranks where the gift is in 20 layers of gift wrap and contains only a small gift."

"You got me but keep on going, you'll like it I promise."

And she did, it took her 3 minutes to finally get to the final layer, the gift was a framed selfie of Bill.

"This is what I got? A living piece of nightmare?"

"That's limited edition."

"It's the thought that counts, thanks Bill." She tiptoed and pecked his lips before running to the living room. It was too quick for Bill to process — did she really just do that? — Bill cupped his mouth and followed her back to the party, his mind still floating from what had just happened.
