"Mark he's going fast, I don't know what to do!"
"Just stay calm Sean, you can do this."
"Mark-"
"Just breathe Sean. You're doing fine, and so is the patient."
"You're right, it's f-wait it's not fine IT'S NOT FINE!"
Sean groaned in annoyance as the monitor flatlined, the practice dummy lying on the surgery table as a substitute for a real patient unmoving until Sean ripped the IV's off in irritation.
"Peeta, we lost another one." Sean murmured under his breath.
"Another one bites the dust on Doctor Schneeplestien's table!" Mark commentated in an announcer voice, not hearing Sean's last comment.
"You were so much help, what would I do without the amazing Doctor Iplier." Sean replied sarcastically with a dramatic eye roll.
"Look, don't worry about it. When I first started as a doctor, I just always pronounced people as dying when they walked in, even if they were only in for a checkup." Mark admitted sheepishly, his face slightly heating and burning a light red hue in embarrassment as Sean tried, but failed, to hold his snickers of amusement in.
"I bet you scared the shit out of them." Sean laughed, making Mark start laughing too once he got over his shame.
"At least they listened to what I wanted them to do." Mark shrugged.
"Zhis motherfucker." Sean growled as he glared at the dummy.
"Mark, Sean, you two are on break for a bit." Matt, or Matthias as Mark called him since he knew multiple Matts, informed the two doctors as he poked his head into the room.
"Thanks Matthias!" Mark grinned as he flashed him a thumbs up before returning his attention to Sean.
"C'mon, lets go to the break room and finally eat some lunch." Mark instructed as he grabbed Sean's hand and dragged Sean with him to the break room down the white tiled hall lined with empty wheelchairs and other medical equipment.
"Wanna listen to some music while I put some ramen in the microwave?" Mark asked Sean as he pulled his phone out of his pristine white lab coat before removing his stethoscope.
"Yeah." Sean nodded as he sat down at the small, gray circular table by where Mark had left his red cased phone, listening to the song starting up.
"I, I can't get these memories out of my mind,
And some kind of madness has started to evolve.""Muse, really Mark?" Sean raised a questioning eyebrow.
"What, you said you liked music like this!" Mark protested defensively as he put two cups of ramen noodles in the microwave.
"Dance with me!" Mark directed, taking Sean's hands before he could even open his mouth.
"And I, I tried so hard to let you go,
But some kind of madness is swallowing me whole, yeahI have finally seen the light,
And I have finally realized
What you mean.Ooh oh oh
And now I need to know is this real love,
Or is it just madness keeping us afloat?
And when I look back at all the crazy fights we had,
Like some kind of madness was taking control, yeahAnd now I have finally seen the light,
And I have finally realized
What you need.Mmmm...
But now I have finally seen the end
And I'm not expecting you to care
But I have finally seen the light
I have finally realized,
I need your love
I need your love.""Woah!" Sean exclaimed in surprise as Mark dipped Sean, mischief and joy glimmering in his chocolate brown eyes.
"Don't worry, I won't let you go." Mark promised him softly as he pulled him back up, keeping one hand on Sean's back and the other intertwined with Sean's other hand.
"Come to me
Just in a dream.
Come on and rescue me.
Yes I know, I can't be wrong,
And baby, you're too headstrong.
Our love is
Madness."Mark twirled Sean away from him as the song ended so he could dart over to the microwave and pull their lunch out and set it down in the table.
"Bon appetite." Mark spoke in a semi-decent French accent as he sat one plastic cup of steaming noodles down in front of Sean with an exaggerated bow.
"Thank you kind sir." Sean rolled his eyes at Mark before digging in, glad to have a break from the constant practice that only made him feel worse.
It's a good thing I told them that I'm a new doctor from Germany, Sean thought in relief.
"Hey, you okay?" Mark spoke up, startling Sean from his thoughts.
"Yeah, just thinking." Sean shrugged as he continued eating.
"About?" Mark prompted as he sat down by Sean with his own cup of heated up noodles.
Before Jack could reply, Matt's voice crackled to life on the intercom, his tone extremely urgent.
"We have a code red, I repeat, we have a code red, we are officially in lockdown mode." Matt announced as calmly as he could, fear evident in his voice as red emergency lights started flashing and alarms began blaring, making everyone's ears hurt.
"Code red?" Sean repeated in confusion.
"There's an armed intruder at the front trying to get in." Mark explained as he got up, racing towards the entrance.
"What zhe hell are you doing?!" Sean yelled after Mark's retreating form.
"I'm stopping the intruder from causing any damage!" Mark called back over his shoulder, unfaltering from his path as he disappeared from sight out the door.
"You don't have to be a hero!" Sean cried as he heard the door creak open.
"I do if I want to protect you and the others I care about." Mark replied with fierce determination from the doorway before jogging outside.
That was when Sean heard two muffled gunshots come from outside, followed by deafening silence.
And this is the new book I'm starting! Thought it'd be fun to do a Iplier/Schneep book, especially near Halloween since it's kinda spooky. Anyway, let me know what you guys think so far in the comments, I love seeing them! (Also, don't be afraid to give me new book suggestions).
