Caroline's POV.
I woke up to the sound of birds chirping and forest animals roaming around on the forest floor. I stretch my arms and yawn slowly. I start to untie the ropes that kept me from falling out of the tree in my sleep and put it in my beat up back pack. I climb my way down the huge, dead tree until I was safely on the ground. "Another wonderful day on earth." I said sarcastically to myself as I headed north to find water.I walked for thirty minutes and finally found the river. I crouched down and filled my water bottle up. I am in love with my water bottle because it has a built in filter so I can drink from almost any water source. I stood up and took a swig of the water from my bottle, then putting it back into my back pack. My stomach started to rumble, telling me I needed to eat, but I couldn't hunt no animals because my bow was destroyed and I had no gun.
I start to forage around and found some wild black berries. Picking as many as I could and start eating them disgracefully, not caring at all.
After I finished eating I started to head west to my hometown, Jackson, Tennessee, to scavenge for some supplies.Making sure to watch all my surrounding carefully, not wanting to run into any alien hunters, I start to hike.
I remember my family said that we were only the only humans who survived the foreign diseases that the aliens brought a long time ago, and that we were the only humans left. It was about two years ago, when I was sixteen, that my mom and dad got caught by the alien hunters, mistaking them as for humans. Once they realized that they were hunters, my dad screamed at me to run. My adrenaline rushed through my veins as I ran as fast as I could to safety. When I finally safe my knees buckled from under me, I started to sob, having the feeling of losing everyone who mattered so much. After that day I vowed to never show any weakness.
As I cleared my head of those memories, I reach a cliff that overlooks Jackson. The town was fairly big, but not as big as Memphis or Nashville. The once beloved town that was taken care of looked more like a jungle.
I entered into the outside part of the city, and look to see a group of cattle that was grazing from the unkempt grass, looking at me with huge brown, nearly black eyes. The thought of having a nice steak or hamburger was tempting, but I had nothing to kill one with so I let the thought go. "It's your lucky day, or else you'd be a great burger." I said threateningly at the cow and started to sneak into the depths of my old town, though I had a strange feeling that something was watching me.
