You could say I was ever so slightly nervous right now. I glanced over at Emily, who was nervously drumming her fingers against her thighs, a habit that she had picked up from her father. I, on the other hand, was perched on the sofa bouncing my knee up and down, creating a constant noise on the wooden flooring. Our parents were best friends; since our dads owned a company together, so of course, we had practically grown up as sisters. I'm not going to lie, we were extremely rich, but we basically spent our pocket money on food and things that I could take pictures of for my tumblr. We were currently both sat on her sofa with both of our parents surrounding us in a semi-circle. They had told us that they had some big news that we needed to know, and neither of us had any idea what was going on.

Suddenly I felt her grip my elbow and squeeze as her dad spoke to both of us. "Ok girls, I would tell you that there is no need to be nervous, but we have no idea how you are going to react to this news. Due to the sudden increase in the popularity of our company, it is in its best interest that we relocate out of England, to somewhere with a slightly richer economy and a larger customer audience."

He paced along the width of the room - another habit that Emily had also inherited from him. "So we have spent weeks deliberating this, and how it would affect you and your academic standing, since you have both just concluded the finals of your A level examinations. There is a chance that you will be able to attend a university or college, depending on the results you have received. Of course you could go straight into a job, which ever you would prefer."

My mum stepped forward and handed us each a pile of neatly stacked and numbered envelopes, and spoke up. "The reason that we delayed giving you the results from your test was so that we could give it to you now. If you open envelope number 1, you will find out the results of your A levels."

With shaking hands I slowly began to tear the seal, and in my peripheral vision I saw Emily doing the same. I attempted to swallow down the lump in my throat, but with little success. As scary and daunting as it is, the work that we did over the last 2 years can ultimately dictate what we are able to do in our life. Emily and I literally spent hours upon hours at each other's houses revising and helping each other as much as we could, even though we didn't take all the same subjects. However, in the 2 subjects we did share, we pretty much dedicated our weekends and sleepovers to practicing and learning everything we could to pass the tests and do the best coursework possible. It's hard to believe that the choices I made as a 16 year old can affect what job I am able to get in the future. I finally managed to open the envelope, and slid out the perfectly folded paper. Next to me I heard Emily gasp, and my jaw dropped as I skimmed over the printed words in my head.

My hands flew to my face as I covered my mouth in shock. I got 2 A*'s. I cannot believe it. Even though I studied as hard as I could I never thought that I was good enough to get A's, let alone A*'s. Emily leant over to grab my fallen paper, and I looked at the results that she passed onto my lap.

I tried to form a sentence to congratulate her but before I was able to I was tackled from the side, and was hit with a squeal in my right ear. Laughter bubbled up inside of me as I hugged her over-excited form. Her dad, in a not so subtle manner, cleared his throat causing Emily to compose herself and sit up straight. He then continued, "Well done to both of you on your results, you worked extremely hard and deserve them. In recognition of that, please open envelope 3." He said, grinning slightly.

I wasn't as slow in the opening of this envelope, to the seal was broken in seconds, as was Emily's. My eyebrows rose as I pulled a cheque out for... 3 million pounds. Evidently Emily had the same, as the next thing she said was, "We can't accept this." I nodded in agreement, the same look of bewilderment upon my face. "It's way too much." I said, I never realised the company was doing well enough that they could easily give us that amount of money each.

"It's not just because of your results girls." My dad replied, "We understand that we are uprooting you from your surroundings, and we do feel terrible, however you are both 18 now, which means you are legally allowed to live on your own. I cannot count the amount of times I have heard you two talk about living together when you were older, so this can go towards everything you need for that, as I know you both never want to be in debt."

Emily's mum then joined in, "It also means that you can buy more things for your YouTube channels and your Tumblr accounts, as I know you girls are both quite popular on there." It was true, I guess. We had a joint channel on which we would do pretty much any kind of videos; beauty, fashion, makeup, vlogs, advice, tags, challenges, whatever. We didn't care if the other person did videos by themselves, as we would sometimes use it as a sort of diary. And we both had tumblrs, so would take pictures for each other and all that type of stuff. We had about 900,000 subscribers on YouTube, last time I checked, and I had over 50,000 followers on tumblr. Emily had about 40,000, as I started a year or so before her.

Her mum continued, "So it's not too much, if you think about it in the scheme of things, and you will obviously want to explore the area that you move to, so you won't need to worry about money for that." I guess we would want to 'explore' as it was put. For me that means try the new food and take pictures of everything.

My mum spoke up with a wide smile on her face. "I know you will both be wondering where we are all moving to, so if you open envelope number 2, you will find your plane tickets. You may not know where it is yet, but I am positive you will be happy." He took as step back and plugged his ears, as did the rest of the adults. Emily looked at me and we ripped open the final envelope. On the count of 3, we pulled the no-returns ticket from the envelope, and read the destination. I was ripped up off of the sofa by Emily as we began to jump up and down in a circle, screaming. Our parents let out little content giggles at our reactions. I couldn't believe it. This is where I have dreamed of going my whole life - California.

I attacked my parents with a hug, tears running down my face. To anyone else, this would seem pathetic, but I have dreamed of going to the U.S.A since I was a little girl. Emily and I would sit on the school bus pretty much planning out what we would do if we ever got to live there, and now it is actually happening. "Thank you so so so so so much." I mumbled into my mums shoulder.

She simply chuckled and rubbed my back. "By the way girls, the flight is tomorrow." She casually said. I pulled away as fast as a shot gun, "WHAT?" Again she laughed, "Whilst you were out for the day everything was packed up," I began to talk but was cut off, "yes we got you changes of clothes for tomorrow and tonight, yes your chargers are in a bag as well, and of course your camera is out as well." She knows me so well. Emily's mum evidently had just told Em the same things. "And just to let you know we are on a private flight," My jaw, once again, hit the floor, "due to the fact that all of our possessions will be with us. You better go and rest girls; it will be a long day tomorrow." We nodded simultaneously. As we were leaving the living room to go to Emily's bedroom for the night, her mum called out with sly smile on her face. "Oh and girls? Just thought you might want to know; we have bought you two a house." And with that the door closed on our faces.
