•Prologue•
My name is Kierstin. The apocalypse ruined my life. I had always dreamt about the day it would come. My best friend Meg and I had read hundreds of stories about it, we had all of our plans in motion. She dropped me off at my house on the day this all began and told me she would come back. I haven't seen her since. She's dead, I just know it. We never got to do the things we planned. She never came back.
My name is Jared. The day the boys and girls split was the day I lost hope. On that first day, I knew I would never see Kierstin again. Whether she died or I died, one of us was not going to make it. That I was sure of. It's how every love story ends, tragic and violent. With nothing to lose and everything to regret.
My name is Emily. When the apocalypse began I was a normal sixth grade girl. I liked going to the beach, chilling out with my friends, and attending dance class almost everyday. Now I live each day like it's my last. I get my exercise by burying bodies, or running from zombies, and I never know what will happen to me and my friends, or who will survive.
My name is Ryan. Honestly the apocalypse is probably the best thing that ever happened to me. In our old life I had tons of friends, but none of them really took me seriously. Now I am respected, looked up to, and most importantly: in charge.
My name is Kat. People say I'm too young to have opinions in this knew world. Which is actually more similar to the old than you would think. It's stupid that they don't listen to me. Without me they will never survive. I'm sure of it.
My name is Evan. Only eight people from our original group remain. There used to be twenty. I'm still not sure what became of the girls, and honestly I'd rather not think about it. I live at the CC with the remaining members of my group. This is life now, I think I'm the only one crazy enough to except it.
My name is Margaret. On the way to my house on the day this all began I was attacked by three guys in an alley. They threatened to kill me for no reason at all. Then as suddenly as they had appeared, one dropped dead right in front of me. That was the day I killed my first Walker. That was the day I went from being week, to not needing anyone but myself. A change I fully welcomed.
