*A poem I wrote after reaing NIght and The Diary of Anne Frank. Please Respect.*

Flames

Flames eat us away from the inside out.

Anger, fear, and pure hatred created them,

not matches or gasoline.

I feel the abyss open beneath me.

I walk towards my grave.

I walk towards hell.

Children become part of the flames.

I knew them all once,

before the flames licked then clean of their identity.

The flames eat them away,

like a withered tree devoured by a sudden wildfire.

It's rapid.

We are infected.

The flames cause panic.

Some scream outside, while others scream inside.

They are gone.

But I walk away,

with grief in my heart.

In the smoke I see their dreams.

I see their desires.

I can no longer see their faith.

Those flames I will never forget.

They didn't touch me,

but I still feel the burning.

The flames are dark,

like the night,

They're dark like the times.

Flames are painful.

Flames are unforgettable.

Flames are hate.
