"KAYLA! Hurry up!" I heard Emma call for me from outside. I grabbed my cellular telephone and my wallet with my cash and rushed out the door, locking it behind me. I climbed into her dark blue Jeep and clicked the seatbelt on.
"Hi, sorry about that," I apologized.
"Oh, it's alright," she shrugged. "We're not running late yet. We still have time to stop for dinner. We're going to In 'n Out, right?"
"If that's what you said yesterday, yes." She laughed.
"You talk funny, you know that?" She gently put a hand on my thigh and glanced at me. "I don't mean that in a rude way, it's just more formal than I've heard anyone our age talk."
"I guess..." How was I supposed to reply to that without telling her the truth? "I was just taught to speak in proper English. I was never taught much slang."
"Well here's a piece of slang for you; lit!" She laughed and put her hand back on the wheel. "It means super cool, absolutely amazing, a lot of fun. Tonight is going to be lit!" I laughed at her enthusiasm. Perhaps tonight would, in fact, be lit.
When we arrived at the theatre, we were done with our burgers and fries. I hadn't eaten anything since I arrived on this planet that was so full of grease and flavor and fat, and I loved it. I have more taste buds than any human, so everything I eat is way more flavorful than they think. Emma parked pretty close to the doors, as we got there about two hours before the show starts. There weren't many people, even as time went by. The tickets were general admission, so, as Emma explained, first come, first served. We got pretty close to the front row when they let people file in, and Emma was starting to freak out. There were a lot of girls her age around us and they were all freaking out like Emma. Everyone was yelling things out that made no sense to me, but their excitement rubbed off on me and soon I was cheering as the lights went down as well.
The boys popped out of the floor and all the girls around me screamed. Luckily, in this form, my ears weren't as super sensitive like my tongue was, otherwise I might have gone deaf. They were very cute. Very. The one with curly hair kept flicking it out of his face, and I couldn't stop watching him mess with it. The small one and the blonde joked around and everyone screamed extra loud when they made each other laugh. These girls were so dedicated to these strangers, who were much older than the majority of them, and I really didn't understand it. Sure, they were cute, and a lot of their songs were upbeat and fun to listen to. But the total obsession I observed during the first half of the concert was astounding.
After a very upbeat song, they stepped onto a platform that rose up and moved to a different section of the audience, one much closer to Emma and I. Emma and the girls around us were especially enthusiastic about this section of the concert. It was incredible to see them so close. They were much cuter this close.
The curly haired one kept running towards the audience and sticking his hand out to touch the fans in the front few rows. Emma turned to me with wide eyes and yelled something. I couldn't hear her, so I shrugged and leaned forward.
"We should squeeze in towards the front!" She yelled in my ear. I nodded and she pulled me through the crowd. We weaseled through the crowd and ended in the very front row right as he turned away from our section. "We've got to touch him! Reach your hands out! We've got to touch Harry's hands!" She yelled into my ear again and I just nodded. How was I supposed to reply to that? In concept, it's very odd to try to touch a man that you've never met and have idolized for years and paid money to see. The blonde one came around to us and Emma stuck out her hand and he grabbed it while singing his solo. She went absolutely nuts. I smiled and freaked with her, for her. I genuinely didn't understand why she was so hyped about touching one of the guys, but she was my only human friend, and I needed to learn how to act like them. A few nearly fainted, and as he turned to sing to me, the light shone in my eyes and I blinked in discomfort. Harry stopped when he looked at me and stared. He stopped singing for a bit and looked at me in confusion and with a sense of wonder. I stepped back, suddenly self-conscious and he squatted down and sang to me. I smiled and listened to his voice, and didn't realize, like him, that the tall one with the white strip of hair was running up to push him over. Harry fell to his knees and laughed as he stood. He took one more look at me, and we made eye contact again. Emma whipped me around after he turned away.
"Are you kidding me?!" She screeched. "Kayla, I'm so jealous! That was incredible! He was so close!" The song ended and we all cheered.
HARRY'S POV
I turned away as her friend pulled her to scream. Niall made a confused face at me, and as the song ended, I pulled him in close.
"She's got shining eyes," I said to him.
"Aww, is someone in love? Is this a dumb fanfic moment? You find a girl in the crowd, and you know she's the one?" He nudged me and I looked him in the eyes.
"No, Niall, you don't get it," I shook him slightly. "In the light, her eyes shone. Like, actual stars in the night. Not like, they were just pretty."
"What d'ya mean, mate?" He looked around me to her and I jerked him back.
"Don't make it obvious," I scolded him. "But she's not..."
"Not what?" Liam pulled Niall away and started asking him questions like we do every concert. To myself, I whispered...
Not human.
