(Authors note: This is a human AU. Signless is Kankri and Karkats father. Karkat and Kankri are bros. And this is just a little idea I've been thinking of for a while now so please enjoy. Please don't flame. If you don't have something nice to say about it please don't say anything. My self esteem is low enough as it is. )

Karkat and Kankri came home from the store with heavy bags full of groceries that they most desperately needed after a few weeks of there father not getting paid. Karkat finally told his father that if he didnt talk to his boss about this Karkat would get a little violent. And Signless knows that Karkat isn't kidding when he says that. So like he was told to do (by his son) Signless went to his boss and demanded a paycheck, and a raise. So now there they were coming home with just what they needed.

Karkat plopped his bags on the kitchen counter and looked over his shoulder.

"Anymore Kan?" Kankri set his own bags on the counter and shook his head.

"No I beleive these are the last of them, but if you are willing to go check im not going to hold you back-" Karkat put his hand up to stop Kankri from going on.

"Thats all I needed to know!" Karkat groaned and walked outside to the trunk of the car and saw there wasnt anymore bags to carry in. He slammed it closed and walked back to the house closing the door behind him and going to his room to leave Kankri to put the groceries in there respected places. Kankri shakes his head, this time a little disappointed in his brother. He rarely ever helped make dinner or do chores and Dad never did anything about it. Its like he didnt care that Karkat was so lazy. Well he wasnt lazy he was just very reluctant to help other people willingly. Kankri on the other hand would drop anything to help his father or do a little laundry when needed. But like always nothing is going to change. Thats just how this house worked. As Kankri finished putting all the groceries away he heard foot steps coming down the stares and he turned around to see his father.

Well isn't this a wonderful time to have a talk. Signless sat at the kitchen table and grabbed the news paper that was sitting there since this morning and opened it up. Kankri cleared his throat seeing his father not acknowledge him. He found that so rude. It was like Kankri was the only one in this house with manners. Signless heard him and turned his head.

"Yes Kankri? Do you need something?" Kankri nods and turns and walks up to his father.

"We need to talk about Karkats behavior. I have noticed that he is not participating in any family action such as chores, laundry, and helping around the house in general and I would like to suggest that you have a talk with him because I feel that he is only going to be lazier and more disobedient as time goes on-" Signless stopped him and gave Kankri a look that made Kankri think twice about what he said.

"Kankri I dont want you to meddle in how Karkat acts. You know how he is and hes not going to change. Trying to get him to do things will only make things worse." Kankri sighed.

"But father he-" Signless put his hand up this time and Kankri stopped immediately.

"I said leave him be. And I mean it Kankri if I hear you say anything to him you will be punished!" Signless stood and picked up his paper walking out to the front porch to read. Kankri glared until his father was out of the room and left to his own room in silence. Karkat sat behind the wall that went half way down the stairs. He heard everything. Kankri had a problem with the way he acted huh? Well lets see if he likes the new Karkat. He smirked and went back put to his room with a nasty plan...

The next morning Kankri got up with a yawn and stretched out his tired muscles. He could smell something that was definitely different in the house. It smelled like... Pancakes? And bacon?! Dad couldnt be up this early! Kankri got up quickly throwing on his red sweater and running out to the kitchen. There stood a shocking image of Karkat in an apron flipping pancakes. Kankri looked at him shocked.

"K-Karkat...?" Kankri stuttered and Karkat turned around with a grin.

"Who else would it be fuckass?" Karkat turned the burner off and put the food on a plate setting it on the table where a place was set for three people. Kankri was very confused. Signless came walking in a second later and stops in his tracks to see this and looks to Kankri for an explanation.

"Did you say anything to him?" He said that with a tone that almost scared Kankri. He shook his head frantically.

"No I woke up and saw him like this!" Karkat pulled out some cups from the cabinets and poured them some juice before sitting down at his spot.

"Are you going to sit down or is all of this food going to go to waste?" Kankri and Signless sat down quickly to not offend Karkat and dug into the food. Supprisingly Karkat was really good at making breakfast. But why was he doing this? Kankri was thinking maybe he heard his conversation with dad last night. Signless was obviously thinking Kankri had something to do with this but he wasnt saying anything about it.

After breakfast Signless got up and left for work and the boys were left to clean. Instinctively Kankri picked up the plates and brought them to the sink but Karkat stopped him.

"I've got it Kankri, go." Karkat said that with a stern tone that told Kankri to listen to him but he wasnt going to give in.

"I'm not going to leave until you tell me what your intentions are." Karkat folded his arms and glared up at him.

"If you dont get out of my kitchen im going to punch you in the nose!" Kankri looked shocked at his sudden violence.

"Karkat what is wrong with you? Just last night you would have been happy being lazy and having nothing to do with anyone else in this house! Now all of a sudden you feel the need to make breakfast and do the dishes? Your obviously not yourself and I wont let you fool me and dad like this!" Kankri was starting to shout at the end of the sentence. Karkat put on a blank face and turned away starting to put dirty dishes into the dishwasher. Kankri frowns and keeps his eyes on his brother waiting for a response but he gets none.

"Fine. Whatever makes you happy so be it." Kankri left to his room to think about whats happening. Karkat did what he needed to do.
