I stepped into the large pipe, dreading the shadows that extended around the entire circle. "You sure about this?" I looked back at Jocelyn, my best friend. She grinned devilishly, flipping her long black hair over her shoulder.
"Positive. It goes straight through this hill and then I'll pick you up on the other side." She ran back to her red car. "I'm going to drive over there now... If you want a ride back to the city, you have to come out the other side of this pipe." The door slammed shut and she disappeared in a cloud of dust.
I sighed, wondering how I always got into these situations. It was the day before Halloween, and as a famous Youtube vlogger, my fans were expecting something scary. Jocelyn, my self-appointed manager, said I had to go through this and vlog it all as a mini horror video. Her leaving was the last straw, I had to do it or I wouldn't get back to my house until early morning.
I knew because it had happened before.
"Here goes nothing." I jumped up onto the rim of the large circular structure. It was about ten feet in circumference and had been placed here for some reason... one that no one knew.
My breath echoed through, pounding in my ears. I took a shuffling footstep forwards and almost died with fright as it resounded down the pipe, disappearing into the dark depths. If anything was hiding in there, they're know I was coming.
I pulled out my selfie-stick and turned on the video.
"Hey guys! It's Bethany here!" I plastered a smile on my face. "As it's the day before Halloween I've decided to do something scary... in the middle of the night." I swung the camera in a circle, showing them the pipe. "This is a strange place that's above my city, running straight through a hill. I'm going to walk through it without any lights, and get picked up by Jocelyn at the other end!"
I began walking, the prospect of it all being filmed lightening my steps. "I can't really see anything right now..." I turned on the small camera light so they could see my face. "It looks like this place is still in perfect condition." I looked at the metallic walls and the bolts holding them in place.
I spun around and was surprised to see the end as a small hole. I was already quite a ways in. "I can't see the other end... which is kinda strange. But I should be able to see it soon, as this tunnel is only... actually I don't really know how long it is." I smiled, swearing to myself that I'd cut that awkward moment out when I posted this.
Something suddenly rang through the air in front of me. A loud rap on the metal. I froze and shone the camera in that direction.
There was nothing.
"This is unstable and rocks fall all the time." I lied, hoping they wouldn't realize that there weren't even rocks in here.
A sharp tap drew my attention behind me. I spun around... my heart pounding louder than it ever had. Another one rang out... and another. I saw a vague silhouette in the small hole at the end behind me.
"Jocelyn?" I yelled. "If that's you... this isn't funny."
Malicious laughter floated around me and the figure began to walk forwards. I spun around and began sprinting. The other end became visible and I slowed to a stop. A figure stood in that opening too. They began walking in an unsteady gait, stumbling over nothing.
"Jocelyn, stop it!" I turned around. The other person wasn't visible. Either they'd gotten out of the pipe, or they were hidden in the dark stretch between us. Praying it wasn't the latter, I began running back to the beginning, turning my flashlight on high beam.
"Bethany!" Jocelyns voice echoed through the tunnel. I froze and then looked up. A deformed creature clung to the smooth ceiling of the pipe, crawling over me, it's soulless eyes peering at me. "Jocelyn!" It cried again, with perfect imitation.
I screamed and fell to my knees, my phone tumbling to the ground and smashing. Left in darkness I crawled forwards, hoping the creature couldn't see me in the dark. I was an opened target and something could easily get me.
A light appeared in front of me and something crouched beside me. "There, there... Bethany. You have no idea how long I've been waiting for you."

Nausea filled my aching body when I came too. My head felt like it had exploded. I tried to move but found I was wrapped tightly in some kind of cloth. I screamed into a rag, my cries muffled out.
My ankles were lashed together with a thick rope and I was hanging from the ceiling. The bones grinded together as I swung back and forth like a mummified pendulum.
"Phwelp!" I screamed again, dust filling my mouth from the dirty rag.
"No one can hear you." A quiet voice said beside me. I lurched to the side, my body writhing, but I just swung back again. A cold hand touched my forehead and stopped me from moving. "It's useless. You've been captured, and you won't get out."
"Wfpp." I mumbled. The rag was undone and I gasped for fresh air. "What do they want?"
"Our souls." The answer came from the other side of me.
"Our... what?"
"They want-"
"Our life-" The voices were competing, finishing each other's sentences.
"Okay... and?"
"They use them to-"
"Live a more normal life in-"
"The mortal world so they can-"
"Capture more people-"
"Have they done it to you two?" I asked.
A light suddenly lit up the entire room. I blinked and then looked around. A young boy was standing with his back facing me. I turned around and saw a familiar figure, with her back also facing me.
"Jocelyn?"
She spun around and I screamed again, my parched throat recoiling with pain. Her eyes were black and she looked listless, her body moving in jerking spasms.
"They did it to us, and now we'll do it to you."
The room turned black again, and pain filled me before I passed out to wake up as something no better than an animal.
