Lindsay's pov
Today was going to be awesome. The waves have never been bigger. Owen and I have 3 weeks until the Marengo beach. We have Been surfing everyday for about a month. I've been surfing for about 10 years. Being 15 isn't easy. Your still trying to figure out what to do with out life and when surfing is your whole life, ya it's hard. Well Marengo is where Owen and I spend most of our time. 13 years is along time to have a friend that's a boy. We go everywhere together, and everybody asked if we're siblings . He's the normal beach boy, blond hair and blue eyes and a perfect tan. But I'm the same except for my brown hair. I don't see how we look alike. We have entered more surfing competitions this year than you can count of your fingers. Living in Melbourne is awesome and it's always warm.
Sometimes I wish things were normal like they were 3 years ago. When I was 12 my mum died. That was the hardest day of my life. I remember it like it was yesterday.
flashback
"mum, mum can we go now I don't want to be late"
"yea whatever, I will be there in a sec let me just find my keys"
end flashback
When ever I have that flashback it always stops there. It's to short I know but I can never get myself to remember the whole thing. That day was the annual Melbourne girls surfing competition. The day was supposed to be perfect, I had my mum and my best friend watching me. What could go wrong? that's where I was wrong.
Heres how the day went...
i woke up with so much energy I was bouncing off the walls. my mum wasn't feeling well but my dad was in America for work. My mum had to drive me to the comp and sign me in so she agreed to go. from this moment it's a blur, I don't like to remember it.
We got in the car and drove to the beach. It was a new beach in Melbourne that I had never been to, the break looked different then what I had surfed on before. I was scared out of my mind. I met Owen there and we went to sign me in. I was number 15. The first few girls are really good, then they got to the ones who just surfed when they could and weren't that good, next thing I knew it it was number 12. I had two people before me. I must have had a bad look on my face cause Owen dragged me over to a bench. I remember him giving me a big lecture about doing my best and giving it my all and to just have fun. He told me that when I got out of the water everything was going to be the same except that I would be holding a big trophy for best surfer. Before I knew it they were saying "number 15, Lindsay Martin. Your up, good luck out there" I grabbed my board and began paddling. That when my life changed, when I was sitting on a surf board a long way away from land. I heard the siren loud and clear. I remember looking back and seeing a bunch of police and emergency vehicles rushing towards a person on land. I couldn't make it out until Owen was screaming at the top of this lungs
"linds, come back. Something's wrong"
