I knew something was not right the second I woke up.
I lay very still in my bed. there was nothing but silence, but then I heard it : someone crying in my front yard.
I got up slowly and started to open the red and blue blinds covering my window. but then stopped, "why would someone be in my front yard crying? the closest person that lived by me was an old man. and his house was at least a mile away" I debated with myself for a few minutes on what to do. finally I decided to open the blinds, even though my gut screamed at me not to.
I pulled up the blinds and was startled at what I saw: a little girl, no more than five or six, crouched in the tall grass.
I quickly put on my robe and ran to the front door, pausing to undo the three locks.
by the time I got the door open she was standing, looking at me with a very strange look on her face. then a crooked smile crossed her lips as she ran toward me.
but in stead if her arms reaching out toward me they swung limply at her sides. she was crying as she ran. I reached out my arms as she neared me, when she got within ten steps from me, I realized those were not sobs coming from her but groans.
