Paige’s POV
I woke up to the harsh sunlight in my eyes and I turned onto my side and my stomach churned and I reached around grabbing my bowl and finished off the process I’d been doing all night long. I was never eating at that restaurant again it was horrible coming back up. I sat up slowly and saw that Jesse was past out over on the rocking chair. I have to give him points for not running out like Jared.
Despite what I might wish Jesse never gave me my heart back so I could give it to Jared or anyone else for that matter. I hopped off my bed and almost blacked out when I stood up. I made my way into the bathroom and brushed my teeth and then brushed my hair. I went over and climbed into the bathtub and nibbled on my soda crackers. I sat there for a long time slowly eating my snack. “Morning”, Jesse said suddenly sitting down on the edge of the tub.
“I feel like crap”, I said sipping my water.
“I’m guessing you won’t be eating at that restaurant again anytime soon”, he said and I glared up at him.
“Why are you such a know it all?” I said rubbing my head with the glass.
“It’s just natural”, he said helping me out of the tub.
“I have to go to work”, I said starting to grab my coat.
“Why don’t you just tell them to get bent or to screw off like me and the city council?” he said grabbing my coat.
“Not funny I have to work”, I said then lost my balance and he caught me before I hit the ground face first.
“You can barely stand do you really think you can handle heavy machinery”, he said sitting me down on the bed.
“What else am I going to do?” I asked rubbing my aching head.
“Rest and act like a normal sick person by staying in bed and let people take care of you for once”, he said sitting down next to me.
“I can take care of myself I’m not a teenager anymore I’m a grownup”, I said trying to stand up again.
“You know I’m just as stubborn if not more stubborn than you”, he warned, “you’re going to sit in bed and eat chicken noodle soup, crackers and drink ginger ale until you’re better”.
“I do like ginger ale”, I said sitting back down.
“I remember now under the blanket it’s your official sick day today”, he said then left the room. I wasn’t used to being taken care of and I had missed Jesse being there for me. Jared was great and I had fun with him but he didn’t know everything about me like Jesse did. I got in under the blanket and sat there thinking back to when we first meet. I was ten and I was fighting with Wendy as per usual when this new boy walking right up to me. He’d asked if I knew a girl named Patrice and I knew everyone so I said yes. I started describing her to him and launched into a tale about her swallowing gum and swearing that was bad luck.
We’d hit it off from the start and we became close within a few days. I was going to go to my first dance ever with him but he and Patrice disappeared and that’s the first time my heart hurt. When he was around though, I felt like a different happier person that had someone that cared and looked after me. I knew he wasn’t staying here forever this time either he would disappear with Wendy who knows maybe they’d end up together. He had kissed her back last night and they had some secret. I wrapped my blanket around myself and sipped my water. “Hey”, I said as Jesse walked back in with his version of chicken noodle soup created by Lipton.
“That should go with your soda crackers I would have made it from scratch but I don’t have days to make it”, he explained as I started to sip it carefully.
