Chapter 1
Now, I know what you're thinking: what kind of stupid person would forget who they were for no reason?
Well, consider me that stupid person. My name's Leander...or at least I think it is.
I just 'came to' in some small library with a girl sitting next to me and smiling at me like this was all normal.
Which, it isn't.
The library is stacked full of books, they cover the walls and occupy the shelves.
The girl and I sit on a bench, together.
I have no idea who I am, where I am, or who the strawberry blonde girl next to me is.
No idea.
"Leo, you don't look so good." The girl observes, poking me with her index finger.
I think I glared at her, because she frowned.
Which, oddly enough, made me sad.
"Who the heck are you?" I ask, rather angrily now for feeling so stupid.
The girl giggles and I just frown some more.
She tilts her head slightly and looks at me with a concerned twinkle in her eyes.
"Stop joking around!" She scolds, hitting me playfully on the arm.
A person somewhere else in the library drops a book, but we both ignore it.
"I'm serious, okay? I'm not joking." I snap back at her.
The fact that she's cute doesn't distract me now, I just want to know what the heck is going on.
"Oh, God! You're serious?"
She leans forward to whisper in my ear, "What happened?"
I push her back, getting angrier each moment.
"How am I supposed to know?" I shout, loud enough for everyone in the small libary to hear me.
They poke their heads over the tops of books and look at me like I must've escaped from a mental hospital.
As far as I know, they could be right.
The girl gets to her feet and backs away from me slowly, leaving her library books on the bench.
"Leo..." She says quietly, her voice almost a whisper.
Great, now I'm confused, grumpy, and guilty.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to be so rude." I apologize.
A smile immediately ignites on her face.
"I knew you'd come to your senses. It's not very nice to trick me like that."
She laughs, putting her hands on her hips.
"We've gone over this already. Do we have to review it again? I'm not 'tricking' you. And you keep calling me Leo, right? Then that is my name?"
I ask, still slightly annoyed that she can't take me seriously.
Am I really the kind of person who jokes around all the time?
I don't feel like anything funny is going on right now.
She sighs like I've really hurt her feelings.
And judging the girl, I think that's pretty much likely.
"You're name is Leanard Scott, but everyone just calls you Leo. Remember that?"
She says, an extreme sense of boredom in her tone.
I can tell that she isn't taking this seriously.
"No, not really. I mean, I knew my first name was Leanard, but that's it."
I admit, shrugging my shoulders.
She puts her head in her hands.
"Please, Leo, knock it off. Okay?"
She rushes towards me, embracing me in a comforting hug.
She finally pulls back and sits back down next to me.
She has tears in her eyes now and I can tell that I'm not making her feel any better.
"I'm really sorry, but I don't remember."
The girl wipes the tears out of her eyes and turns to me.
"You know, maybe there's some way that we can help you, okay?"
She offers, looking at me like I'm the saddest thing on Earth.
Apparently, the girl can't help herself.
She hugs me, again.
"How are you going to 'help' me?"
I ask her, this time, I don't mind the hug.
The girl smells like rasberries and she seems to like me.
Which, I can't really complain about.
She has long, straight strawberry blonde hair and she's shorter then me.
The girl reminds me of a living Barbie, besides the fact that she's wearing something Barbie probably would've burned.
She wears a black t-shirt with a picture of a bleeding heart on the front.
Her jeans are torn dark colored denim with lots of rips in them.
She has surprising electric blue eyes that seem to reflect her mood with perfection.
"I could take you to the hospital?"
She suggests.
I immediately decline the request.
The other people in the library seem to have gone back to their own business minutes ago, so we can talk in peace.
"I forgot, you told me once that you hate hospitals."
I nod, even though I can't say that much is true.
"Do...do you even know what you look like? Or...how old you are?" She asks.
I begin to realize that in fact, I don't.
"I can't say that I do." I admit, pain in my voice.
"I'll tell you, okay? You're fifteen years old, just like me. You have medium length, wavy blonde hair," she stops to observe,
"with a few brown highlights. Your eyes are green...or dark green."
She pauges again, wiping the remaining tears from her eyes.
"Your skin is about the same color as mine."
The girl's skin is white and kind of pale.
I look down at my own hands and see that she's right.
"You're tall too, Leo. You also have a really cute face, kind of elf-like in a way. But still, cute."
She smile and I feel a rush of joy.
It seems like she's done, so I put her hand in mine.
I realize that she seems comfortable when we're touching.
And that's okay.
"What about you?" I ask, I don't even know her name.
"My name's Annemarie Baxter," she looks into my eyes,
"I'm your girlfriend, Leo."
