5 hours of nonstop rain.

I whisper to myself as I trace a stick figure on the foggy glass.

The air around me is eerily quite and I purse my lips biting the inside of my cheek. No one else is yet on the train so I take the time to relax, curling my knees to my chest and taking deep breathes as if it could help me. It never has before so I don't know why I'm expecting a sudden change.

I wave the train server over and ask for hot chocolate, hoping the combination of steaming heat and overwhelming sugar will be enough to keep me on edge. Or at least hoping it will be enough to give my energy a boost.

Eventually the train stops, its squeaky wheels screaming in the thunder storm.  Above rain patters delicately on the roof. The melodic soothing sound of constant rainfall making my eyelids droop. In and out of dream land my conscious goes.

I don't get the slightest chance to fall alseep although. As a loud, squealing girl boards the train.

"Hi! Oh I'm so excited to meet you!" Holding out her hand I take it. My eyebrows scrunching together.

Her nails are long and acrylic painted the terrifying color of neon pink. The girls face is caked in makeup and her curly hair is frizzy.

"Why?" I say both curiously and cautiously.
"Funny" she giggles acting as if I've told her something ridiculous " don't you know it's such an honor to be apart of these games? Anyone in them is highly respected to me."

I bite my tongue to not reply rudely. How was it an honor to be slaughtered? How was it an honor to be disrupted from your life to serve a slim purpose for the Alpha? A cruel, selfish Alpha that everyone thinks is so excellent. Chris probably isn't as attractive as everyone says! And besides why should looks and power excuse his vile actions? The more I think of it while the girl talks the angrier I get. So to distract my mind I spit out my name randomly.

"Wow!" She says in a high pitched tone " What a lovely name! It sounds like an Alphard name. Or perhaps a Vega name? Anyway I'm Christiana, it is my pleasure to meet you, I'm sure we will become fast friends."

Doubt it, my thoughts whisper.

Instead I smile, pursing my lips and gesturing to the open seat next to me. Christiana sits gladly, babbling away about the games. How she thinks they will go. Raving about the elegant eye screaming parties. Most of all she drools on about Chris and her insane theory to became his late night lover.

Her words go through one ear and out the other. Instead I focus on the wet world outside. Gazing at the dark green trees as they drip with water. We drive around every part of Deneb, crowding more unfortunate citizens in the train. All the girls are similar in face, sharp cheek bones. Honey brown hair. All having sea blue eyes. The classic look for the girls of Deneb. The boys are similar but have strikingly sharp jaws that could cut glass.

"Look oh my! Look!" Christiana shakes my arm. I growl in annoyance and follow her pointed finger to a mansion.

A baby blue stand alone. Looking lonely and sad in the storm. Around people begin to notice the mansion and squeal in delight. Breathing heavily in either nervousness or anticipation. But I couldn't conjure the smallest bit of happiness at seeing the mansion. Instead a terrible and pitiful void of emotions stirred in my stomach. My throat became dry and it felt like sand was being poured down it. This baby blue stand alone was going to be the place I died.

——————————————————————-

Violet snake eyes and the overwhelming smell of something sweet. The sweet intoxicating aroma makes my stomach flip. My toes curl in my boots and I bite my tongue until I taste blood. Fear continues to take its wrath and spike in my system.

The women who greets us at the door is not the ideal female of Deneb. Her cheekbones are sharp and those eyes are stunningly beautiful. But her hair is her black. The color of a pitch black night with no stars. Perhaps it was dyed to make her stick out.

"Hello" she says delightfully " welcome to Alpha Chris's and my home."

Her words are supposed to be inviting and warm. A soft touch to make us all feel a bit more comfortable. To me the words are icy and cold. Bitter and yet another reminder of how much danger I am in.

"I am Chris's sister Blair. Another host in this years games! We are so excited to welcome you here. But we have a few rules while you stay."

I gulp and her eyes flicker to mine obviously noticing my unease. Confusion to my actions flit through them and shivers crawl up my spine. Then she breaks the gaze and continues to warmly smile.

"You are not allowed to be out of your room without an escort. Each of you have already been assigned a room and escort so don't worry about that. One policy we have is to try and not be alone with Alpha Chris as we do not want him to favor anyone."

She pauses and let's us momentarily soak in the words. I glance around the words and see everyone mesmerized.

"We do ask that you try your hardest at these games. As you know 1 boy and 1 girl get to walk out alive."

With those words the air becomes suffocating and tense. As if everyone has for once thought this through they remain quite. Has fear finally gripped their mentality?

"Now" she says flashing a toothy grin "who would like to meet Alpha Chris?"

With those words all signs of worry fly out the window. Girls nervously giggle and their cheeks light up cherry red. The guys were more calm but I could tell they were excited to meet their Alpha. He of course is like a celebrity everyone idolizes.

So Blair leads us down beautiful golden hallways. Lit by small mellow lights the color melts, and wondrous shadows are cast on the ceiling. Once in the dining hall about 7 girls shriek when Chris comes into view. A polite and panty dropping smile is painted on his appealing face. I feel butterflies flutter in my stomach realizing  he in fact is as attractive as everyone says. He does a sweep of the room until those eyes fall on me. Locking the moment our gazes meet.
