Rescue

When we reached the big wooden entrance door, I was nearly carrying all of his weight.

My muscles were already aching like mad, but I didn't want to seem weak next to the head of the New York Institute.

With a sigh I pushed the door open and lead him inside.

Victor was only barely walking and I had to hold his waist firmer, groaning a bit by my hurting arms.

"Help!", I shouted as loud as I could when suddenly Aldertree's body went totally limp and he got unconscious.

His weight made me sink to my knees and I just managed it to set him down onto the ground, with his head leaning against the wall.

Victor's wound stoped bleeding now, but his ripped shirt was so blood soaked that some of the red liquid drops onto the main hall floor.

Jace came around the corner and right behind him was Alec.

"What happened?!"

The black haired man's voice echoed through the hall.

I felt a heavy load releasing from my shoulders and slid down the stone wall as well, falling down next to the New York's head of the Institute.

My chest and stomach rose and fell under my blood soaked shirt when the two young men reached us.

"Liz! What happened!?"

Alec inspected Victor's wound and Jace looked at me.

I coughed and slowly tried to get up again.

With Jace's aid I finally managed to get back up and my breathing got regular again.

"We were about to visit the Jade Wolf to talk to Luke Graymark, but....then we were attacked."

Alec picked Victor up and carried him to the infirmary while I stood exactly where I was, just like the blonde nephilim did.

I looked down on my bloody shirt and just realized that I didn't even know if I was injured myself.

I only got sure that Victor was right.

To my surprise I was fine, ignoring the fact that my muscles were still burning like hell.

"Why was Aldertree out anyway and not in the Institute?", Jace was still looking at me.

"Sammie is ill, so he told me he wanted to take a walk."

I shrugged my shoulders, not telling him the whole truth, that Victor often 'takes walks' to kill demons on his own.

I didn't think it was neccessary.

"Anyway. You should go to the infirmary. Just in case", Jace added while sighing and briefly scanned my body with his two differently coloured eyes.

"No, thanks. I am fine."

I nodded and streched my arms.

"Well, at least you should change your clothes, they look slightly messed up."

I stood silently and started walking to my room.

I could feel Jace's stare in my neck when I kept walking.

After I took a shower I put on some new clothes before I sat down onto my bed.

My hands wandered to my face and I cupped it while sighing.

It was only my second day here and I already had a huge examination.

Probably others were going to follow soon, but at the moment I was just glad that this one was over.

I decided to visit the infirmary and look for Victor, so I silently closed my room door behind me.

I walked along the hallway and took the way through the main hall before I finally reached the infirmary.

When I entered it I saw many white beds standing in a row and after I looked around I saw a nurse crossing my way.

"Ahm...excuse me."

I slowly came closer to the woman.

She was wearing a short sleeved white shirt, which showed her runed arms and a random pair of long trousers.

"Hello. Can I help you?"

The woman smiled politely and held the file she was carrying a bit down.

"Yeah. Could you maybe tell me if Victor Aldertree is awake yet?"

I wanted to know with a weak smile.

"Yes, he just woke up about five minutes ago. You have to be Elisabeth Raventower right? The young woman who saved his life!"

She smiles now even wider, fascinated.

"I....ahm...wouldn't say that I saved his live."

And again one of these embarrassing moments where I was literally speechless.

"Oh, sure you did! And he is right over there."

The woman, who's name was Layla according to her name tag, pointed at another direction of the infirmary station.

"Thank you then......Layla."

I smiled shortly one last time and walked over to the spot she was pointing at.

I was really surprised when I entered another room and saw someone laying on the bed.

The head of the institute had his own infirmary room? I mean....really?!

Anyway, after I closed the door behind me carefully and silently I faced the man again, who was now looking at me.

"Hey."

I said and he sat up a bit on his bed.

"Hey Liz."

Victor replied smiling weakly.

The angels know how glad I was that this wasn't like one of these cheesy movies where the injured person was laying with only a bandage over his bare chest on the infirmary bed.

"How are you?"

I asked carefully when I came a bit closer to him, stoping at the opposite of the white bed, leaning against the wall.

He was wearing a light grey shirt and the blanket was covering him up to his upper stomach.

"Already better, thank you. But how are you? I mean, after this indeed horrible scenery."

He rubs his neck slightly, I guess it was a little bit embarrassement, even when he would never admit that.

"I am fine, I guess."

I looked over my body shortly and smiled a bit.

"Thank you then, for saving my life."

He tilted his head a little and laid his hand back down onto the white pillow.

"No problem."

I answered and held my hands folded in front of me.

"No. I really want to thank you. I mean I would probably be dead now without you."

Victor was still looking at me, but I looked to the side.

"You're not used to someone thanking you, right?"

He smiled weakly when I just nodded, still looking out of the window.

"I lived in an orphanage since I can remember, so...what shall I say?"

I shrugged my shoulders slightly and looked back at him.
