Lucky
Chapter 1: Today Isn’t Your Lucky Day
I stopped outside the curb in front of the supermarket, a gallon of milk in my right hand. Looking up at the darkening sky, then back to the empty parking lot, I stepped one foot off the edge of the curb before I felt something cold and hard go to my temple, a hand covering my mouth pulling me towards a body, and harsh words being whispered into my ear.
"Walk quickly and calmly to your car, don't even try to run, or I swear to God I will shoot you." A deep voice hissed. At first, I was too shocked to realize what was happening, until I was brought back to reality with the stranger putting more pressure on the gun being held to the right side of my head.
"Did you hear what I just said? Walk. Now! And don't even think about going to someone else's car, I know which one's yours. I saw you pull in." the voice whispered. There was a buzzing in my head and my throat felt tight. After quickly evaluating the situation at hand, I did what any sane person would do. Mentally panic for one, and then drop the gallon of milk I was holding and proceeded to speed walk to my car. All while being embraced by a stranger at gunpoint.
When we were finally in front of my car, It turned me around, pushed me up against the vehicle, and took the gun from my head all while keeping his large hand clasped over my mouth. Facing him, the apparent young male figure in front of me spoke all while my sharp blue eyes glared into his brown ones.
"Now give me your car keys, cell phone, and everything else in you pockets." he demanded. I nodded, my eyes wide and took out my keys, phone, a few crumpled bills, and a tampon, handing it all to him.
"Jesus." he breathed out, blushing slightly at the sight of the tampon, pocketing them.
"Now, I'm going to open the door, and you're going to get into the passenger seat like a good girl. Don't even try to run or so much as utter a single word, because I swear I won't hesitate to kill you." And to make it clear to me that he wasn't playing around, he took out his gun and cocked it. My eyes widened in fear, and again I nodded.
"Good, princess." he praised. Once I was in the seat I shakily put my seatbelt on, then glanced over at the stranger in the drivers seat. He locked the doors, and then just sat there staring at me with a puzzled look on his face. I took this as an opportunity to assess his features.
He looked rather young, in his early twenties. Stranger had dark blonde hair, twinkling brown eyes, and a strong jaw line. He had a tall frame, not overly muscular, and a little scruffy looking, like he hadn't slept in a few days. Wearing dark washed jeans that looked dirty, strong cologne, a white t-shirt and black jacket, he turned towards me.
"What are you looking at?" he snapped at me. I quickly darted my gaze straight in front of me at my dashboard.
"N-nothing." I stuttered. He muttered incoherent curses before starting the car and driving off. After a few minutes of driving, Stranger man spoke.
"So what's your name?" he asked in a way that wasn't unkind.
"Evangeline." I spoke more confidently. The last thing I needed was for this guy to think I was afraid of him, which I think I'd already accomplished.
"Hmm, Evangeline, huh? Well, I'm Jax." he said softer and slower, than out stretched one of his hands for me to shake. I cautiously took it, and couldn't help but notice how warm it was and how it engulfed my own.
"Umm, well hello." I said gently.
"Hello? That's all you can say, hello? No, 'oh let me go you cruel cruel man' or kicking and screaming?" he mocked.
I closed my eyes for a minute before I turned to him and spoke, "What's the point? It won't get me anywhere, just filled with bullet holes." Not expecting my answer, Jax was silent a few moments before he replied.
"Well, hello then." Neither one of us said anything for a while, all that was filling the tense silence was the music playing from the radio. He started to drive on a deserted road before I noticed how dark it was getting.
I began to think about what had happened. I was being kidnapped! Is my Mom looking for me? She must be so worried. Is anyone looking for me? How am I going to get away from this guy? What does he want with me? After sitting there pondering all of this, I began to get angry. Who is this guy?
"Hey Jax, could I ask you what the hell it is you're doing, and where we're going?" I asked sharply. I wanted answers, and I wanted them now.
"No." he spoke just as coldly.
"Too bad, I'm asking anyway. Who are you, and where are you taking me?" matching his tone of voice I spoke a bit louder.
"Well, well, well look who's being all bold, talkin' back to the big bad wolf," he said slightly amused, then serious. "Don't, Little Red. You're just going to get yourself eaten."
"Don't talk to me like that, ever. What makes you think you can just, kidnap people and talk to me like that?" I was beyond pissed off. What's he going to do? Shoot me, kill me? Please, do.
Jax grabbed his gun, pointing it right at me and said, "Because, I'm the one with the gun and the advantage."
"If you're going to shoot me, then please do. I don't like empty threats." I challenged, my voice sounding strange even to me. He put his gun down, looked back at the road, then heaved a sigh. Jax made his right hand look like a little pistol, and quietly said, "Pow, pow."
"I still want to know." I said lightly, grabbing onto his hand and lowering it.
He flinched away quickly. 'Maybe later. Just know that you're not going anywhere, and we're going to be spending a lot of time together." he said exhaustively. I turned my attention to my window as tears began to swell in my eyes. I'm going to die, I know it. Anytime now, my life could end, and I wouldn't even have enough time to realize it. That's when the traitor tears started falling from my eyes and a quiet sob escaped my lips. I had one thought going through my head as my vision started to blur, today really isn't my lucky day.
