The room was arcitic cold, blood decorating the stone walls with crimson splatters. Chains used to hold victims aloft dangled from the ceiling, and from one pair of those cool, rusted links, was a young woman name Simone Sabrerouge. Her tan skin was layered with dirt and grime, bruises multiple on her 5'5" body along with slash marks and cuts that varied in size and depth. Her head hung loosely, the normally shiny, healthy mane of caramel-highlighted brunnette now dull and unclean. Her clothes, once long, graceful robes, were now simple tatters of dusty cloth barely concealing her malnourished body. Had it not been for the steady rise and fall of her chest, one would easily presume she'd already passed on. The cellar door burst open and footsteps echoed hurriedly towards her, making the female smile inwardly. "Simone! It's a boy, it's a boy, Simone!" came the excited whisper as the platinum blonde named Draco Malfoy lifted her head and undid her chains for a brief moment. In his arms was a little blue bundle of cotton, and when it was placed in her weak limbs, she saw a small, lightly tanned infant with a tuft of blond hair laying there. A smile graced her features as she watched the sleeping babe, and soon she began to talk softly. It was nearly inaudible, and at first Draco thought she was merely cooing to the child.
Then he realized the words.
"Ut te semper tuta. Videbo vos ultra mortem. Per sacramentum animam meam iuro salutis. Finite Incantatem, Expecto Patronum, Ego tibi Patronus..."
"Simone? What are you-" She turned her face upwards to him, her navy eyes becoming dim. "I am reciting every protection spell in the magical realm, both wizard and dragon. I refuse to let anyone hurt you or Scorpius. That is what you wanted his first name to be, right?" The male nodded, watching as she continued. "Accio wand." she whispered, and the item poofed into her open palm. It was long and slender yet somehow sturdy, being made of engraved maple and having a dragon fang core. With great care, she tucked the wand into her son's blanket, making sure it was well concealed. Handing the child to her fiance, the woman stood and turned to the closed door. Draco watched, and to his horror, Voldemort himself entered the room. "Ahh, Draco....I see you have brought the child to see his mother for the first and, unfortunately, last time." The blonde gulped, not knowing quite what the Dark Lord meant. "S-sir?" The snake-like man chuckled and raised his wand with grey, skeletal fingers. "I have no more use for her, so she will die. Now that I think about it...." the man redirected his wandtip to the Malfoy and the newborn, "I don't need you two either." Had the green light begin to emerge, Simone lept before them, her body the only obstacle between the Dark Lord's curse and her family. The Killing Curse hit her dead-on and her body dropped to the ground instantaneously. Knowing that now the two were untouchable, the wizard let out a scream of anger and Disapparated in a haze of black, leaving the man and son. The teen stared at his dead lover in horror, not able to comprehend her untimely death. When reality struck, however, he let out a loud wail and dropped to his knees, baby in one arm as he reached out to touch the corpse. In his eyes, she was still beautiful, still perfect. In his eyes, she was an angel. But now, she was dead forever. The child began to cry softly, and Draco could only think of how much it sounded like her own mourning cry. Quiet, delicate, yet strangely clear. Taking her body and his son, the male Disapparated to the only place he knew they'd be safe in.
Upon arriving at the battered, castle-like school of Hogwarts, Draco Malfoy immediately had multiple wands pointed at him in hatred and distrust. Then the eyes landed on the two figures within his arms, and everything was lowered. "Malfoy? What are you doing here?" The blonde turned, his eyes red and puffy from crying. Before him stood Harry Potter and Hermoine Granger, who were now staring in shock at his dead fiance and sleeping son. "Is that....is that Simone?" Draco nodded softly, staring at the woman's peaceful features. "Please, please take care of them until the war is over. I can't keep them at the Manor and know they're safe. Simone already died, I can't let the same happen to Scorpius, not when she...she...." "What did she do?" With a sniffle, he relayed the story to all of Hogwarts that wanted to listen, and by the time he'd finished, nearly everyone was in tears. One of the Professors, McGonagall, walked forward solemnly. "Perhaps you could stay in the infirmary with them while we dispose of the bodies. She will be given a proper funeral." Draco nodded and followed her to said place, many eyes watching as he left. "This will probably be the only time I ever pity that man....and this is enough pity to last a lifetime." muttered Ron, who watched their apparent enemy leave. "She sacrificed herself....like my Mom did for me..." came the voice of the Boy Who Lived as he gazed in the infirmary's direction, eyes glazed over in thought. "So now Scorpius is untouchable by the Death Eaters and the Dark Lord?" "Yes. And no doubt Draco as well." With teary eyes, everyone began to proceed readying for the next battle phase.
Some Years Later:
Draco smiled softly at his son, who now stood on Platform 9 3/4, awaiting the Hogwarts train. "Dad," came the soft voice, "Is that Mr. Harry?" The man glanced over to where his son was staring, and nodded softly. "Yes." "Is it ok if I talk to his sons?" "My family would've said no. But I say yes, that's fine." A grin came to the boy's features, his deep, navy blue eyes glinting. "I bet Mama would be pretty proud of you, Dad." Draco raised a brow, a chuckled echoing in his chest. "Oh? And why's that?" The youngster smiled even wider and laughed. "Because you're good now and you're the best dad ever." A proud, delighted smile came to the blonde man's features as he hugged the child goodbye, getting onto one knee. His stormy blue eyes met his sons, and he spoke gently. "No doubt your Mum would be proud of you too, Scorpius. You're nearly a replica of her." This confused the eleven-year-old, who cocked his head to the side. "But I look like you." Draco smiled and began to help his son onto the train. "Yes, but you act like her. Now, be good and study hard, ok?" The child smiled and nodded, waving goodbye to his father. "Bye Dad! Be sure to write me, ok? I love you!" The man's lips pulled upwards as he motioned back to his son, replying with a thoughtful tone. "Of course, Scorpius. I love you too, my son." With that, he watched the boy off, thinking all the while about how proud Simone would be if she were standing next to him, trying to hold back tears as she kept a steady gaze on the retreating figure of their son.
Just a little story I wrote some time ago and completely forgot about. Hope you enjoyed~
