I woke up without a reason.Emitting my face by the sun's bright, line of light despite of being blocked by the window curtains. It suppress my line of sight and it is infuriating as I see the pesky dusts gliding.
"Thank you sun for reminding me to clean the room." Said to myself then sighed in annoyance.
You see, I hate sun. It's bright, hot, sweating, and depicts that my painful everyday life will start. When the sun sets, that'll be the time when my father set me up again on some peculiar meetings or conversing with some weird and dangerous looking persons.
"I'm the heiress. Of course I can't just leave this place and run off towards nothing." Said to myself again.
"Or maybe something." I added why holding my chin.
I got up to my bed and started my morning rituals. At first, it felt good to take a bath, but as the time goes by, it is now a reason for me to force myself to be jolly and be submerged to my Father's activities. How many times I have said that I don't want to join nor stay to hear a single word about his business, but he's persistent... and strict.
I've been forced to become his heiress. And I can't untie the knot out of my body parts. A puppet, perhaps.
Someone knocked the door. It was my maid, apparently.
"My Lady, pwede po bang ayusin ang kwarto nyo?" She asked.
"No. Hayaan mo lang. Ayokong may pumapasok sa room ko." I bluntly said.
"But Miss Zena, mas mabuti pong malinis yan. Baka dapuan ka po ng sakit."
"Hindi pa ako dinadapuan ng sakit. I can manage."
"But Mis-"
"I told you. I can manage." I then get passed her. Always knocking my door just to make sure how lively I am.
My Father's not interested in my health, he's interested in his puppet's capabilities for one to obtain the ancestral prowess bestowed upon our ancestors.
Thus, the reason why I don't want to clean my room. Gagawin kong walang kwenta ang existence ko sa mundong ito if I have to. I'll dodge it with my utmost power, but he'll sure find a way to force me to take it.
As I'm descending down the stairs, the maids marched themselves and made a way, acting like a guideline or a road for me to pass through.
Bowed for my presence, I started to be irritated. It is vexing on how and why should I be treated like a jewel.
For my protection too, he only hired girls. Doesn't make sense, napaka bias nya sa gender.
"Good morning my Lady." They all said in unison while looking down, vowing to show respect.
I walked straightly with apathy.
If I got out of this room full of chains and living embodiment of condemnations, I might be the happiest person alive.
And I got out. But still can't feel enthusiasm. Maybe I'm still inside the house. Nasa garden lang kasi ako. Bathing in the sunshine.
Is it alright to escape it? Parang mahirap naman kasi if I leave my father alone. Maybe that's the reason why I can't dodge every aspects of responsibility my father will bestow upon me.
"Because my father is my father." I answered to myself.
Reminiscing my past freedom, I suddenly heard a strange noise behind the bushes, beneath a tree. Curious, I walked with caution.
I slowly doff the bushes that is blocking my view.
I saw a man, sitting beside the tree.
A man?
Wait. How come a man's in our garden?
What's he doing? Bakit hawak-hawak nya yung bulate?
"Sino ka?" He asked with no hesitation. I should be the one whose asking.
"Ikaw kamo. Sino ka?"
"Daniel. Dhiel na lang tawag mo sakin." Daniel said with a gleeful expression habang hawak-hawak pa rin ang bulate.
"Ano ginagawa mo dyan?" Turo ko naman sa bulate. Hindi naman ako nandidiri. Actually, ngayon lang ako nakakita nyan personally.
"Ito? Bulate 'to. Sabi ni mama nakakatulong daw 'to sa pagpapataba ng lupa. Kaya nilalagay ko sya sa ilalim." He then got up of his state and scrape the dirt away from his hand.
"Ikaw. Anong pangalan mo?" Daniel asked while smiling.
"Hindi mo ako kilala?"
"Hindi. Minsan lang kasi ako pumunta dito. Ngayon lang kita nakita."
May sumigaw naman na maid na galing sa pinto ng mansion. Must be her mother. Si Danna nga.
"Nako! Muka ba akong malinis?" He asked, showing a frightened expression.
"Uh-oo? Oo!" I answered too with a frightful tone. Bakit ako nahahawa sa kanya?
"Lagot!"
Is he really that dense?
But... I guess he's alright.
"Daniel!" I shouted while he's running off towards her mother.
Halted for my shout, he replied, "Sabi ko sayo Dheil! Bakit?"
"Zena!" Sigaw ko sa pangalan ko.
"Zena?"
"Yung pangalan ko! Zena!"
He smiled with his teeth showing and eyes are close.
"Dapat Zenny!" He beamed and leave.
That... That's the first time that someone inside our premises called me by my name. No Miss'. No My Lady. No Heiress.
Only Zenny.
