Cupcake Corner was a pink, sprinkly mess of a place. I don't remember the interview, as it was all a giant blur, but somehow, I got the job, and I was to start tomorrow. Pretty soon, I'd have a phone with no debt! Yay!
Four o' clock came earlier than expected, and Mr. Davenport picked us up in his helicopter. Oh, I'm sorry, his Davencopter. That man may not be an evil mastermind, but he has one giant ego. Turns out, the Mission Creek Mall isn't a far Davencopter ride away, and we're back in two minutes. Also, I don't fall out of the helicopter this time! I feel very accomplished.
Once inside, Bree starts ordering everyone that's not in her English group to get out of the room and not come in until five forty-five, since the session's over at five thirty. Adam is really the only one who argues because he wants to meet Beck.
"I wanna check this guy out, make sure he's okay for Bree to be hanging out with him."
Chase rolls his eyes and pulls him away. "You've already met him, Adam."
"But as the biggest man in the house it's my duty to scare him off. I have to stay!" I didn't hear the rest of the conversation, since they were probably halfway across the house.
Bree pays no attention to them and goes into the kitchen to make a snack tray. I get pencils, paper, and a copy of Romeo and Juliet and set them on the table next to the snacks. It's just us for a while, since Bree explained that Beck is almost always late, and by the time Beck actually gets here, half of the chips and dip are gone. (That was my fault. I need to work on controlling myself around potato chips, especially when they're ruffley and next to sour cream and onion dip.)
The session starts off well. We complete a rough draft of one letter for each character and we begin Romeo's second letter. That's when Beck decides he's bored. "You guys wanna play a game?"
I was just about to say that we should finish up, but before I could open my mouth, Bree asks, "What game?"
"I dunno. A video game would be cool. You guys have Luigikart for the Wii?"
Bree gets up and presses a lot of buttons on the TV. Luigikart pops up on the screen, and they start to play, leaving me reading ahead in the play. Poor Paris! He was just trying to do the right thing! Why'd you have to kill him, Romeo? Why?
I guess I was so engrossed in the play, that I didn't even notice Beck had left. Bree shook me back into reality. "Jaime! Jaime, Jaime, Jaime! You'll never guess what happened! Beck asked me out!"
I jump up and start jumping up and down with excitement. We squeal like every normal teenage girl does, and talk about outfits for the date. This is so cool! I've always wanted to do this, but when you're homeschooled with no social interaction, it's kinda hard to talk to your BFF about boys.
"We need to find you a date, too!" Bree says happily. I stop jumping and squealing.
"What?"
"Yeah. It'd be so cool for us to go on double dates, hang out together, and do other coupley stuff together. Please let me find you a boyfriend!" Bree gets down on her knees and gives me the puppy dog face, but she can't stay serious and starts laughing.
"Fine. You can help me get a boyfriend. I have rules though. I have to approve of the guy, we have to go on one date alone before any double dates, and you can't pay him or bribe him. Got it?" Bree nods excitedly.
"Yes! So is there anyone you've got a crush on?" I shake my head. I haven't given much thought to crushes considering it's my first day in school. "Well tomorrow, you and I are going boy shopping."
Boy shopping? What exactly is boy shopping?
"What exactly is boy shopping?" Chase asks. How long was he in the kitchen?
"How long were you in the kitchen?" Bree snaps.
"Since five forty-five, which is the time Beck left. I saw your Luigikart scores. You need to improve your kart control from the looks of it."
Bree turns to me. "You see why I say he's annoying?" She turns back to Chase. "What we're doing is none of your business."
"Yes it is. Mr. Dav-Dad and Tasha need to know you have a date at the smoothie place in the mall tomorrow at three. Hey, isn't that when we're working? Don't you think out parents would be angry if they knew that you were blowing off work for some guy?" Chase picks up an apple and tosses it in the air, a confident smirk on his face. He's got her good.
Bree gives her brother a look that says "talk anymore and I'll kill you." Chase takes the hint, but goes back into the hallway, smirk still plastered on his face.
"He is so annoying! I can't stand when he does that!"
I glance at my phone (I love saying that) and see that it's almost six. "Bree, I gotta go home. I hope everything works out here."
"Okay. Bye, Jaime! Don't forget about boy shopping!"
I wave good-bye as I walk down their driveway. It occurs to me that I don't know where I am. Now how am I going to get home?

AN:// This chapter's short, just because I wanted to get the project out of the way. Also, Beck asked Bree out! Yay!
Fun Fact: I was going to use Beck for something else in the story, but as I was writing, I'm just like, "Awe! They're so cute together!" Now I need to find another guy to do the thing Beck was gonna do. I need to do some boy shopping with Adelaide, only I'm looking for fictional boys and she's looking for... I should stop talking now. I'm rambling more than I expected myself to.
