Her hand hovered on the door handle, key already inside the lock. Rose twisted the key to open the door, her heart racing as every second passed. Her father scared her in unimaginable ways. He always had built up anger and it frightened her the most. Rose's mother never really considered stopping Rose's father from hitting her. She wondered if maybe her mother was scared of him too..

Rose opened the door, poked her head through, and hoped to God that her dad didn't notice how late she was from school. It was already 4: 10 in the afternoon. Doesn't seem too late right? But usually Rose tends to get home early, heading straight home after school to not spite her father by the time she gets home. As she walked into the living room, she noticed he was already there sitting on the couch waiting for her. Her palms got sweaty as she saw him stand up and wal near to where she stood.

"Where have you been?", he said. Looking at her with hatred and resent in his eyes.

"Uh, I was at sch-school and... and sta-started walking.. and I was just at, at school dad.",  she stuttered, hoping he wouldn't lash out at her.

He looked at her and flinched when she said "dad". Rose looked at him, wondering if she already lost him as a father. Tears were building up in her eyes. She wondered how someone could hate her so much.

"Well why are you stuttering? An honest person wouldn't have to stutter. Who were you with?! Huh?! Who?"  By this time, he was already close to her face, breathing down on her. Rose could feel his anger and rage within every breath he took.

"Dad... please. I wasn't with anyone, I promise." Hot tears ran down her face. She didn't like this feeling. The feeling that someone in this world hated her with such amount and never ceased to let her forget it. She wanted her father to forgive her, after all everyone tends to make mistakes.

"I don't believe you. Now tell me the truth!" Rose flinched as his voice was now getting louder than before. As she was about to speak, she noticed her mother coming down the staircase.

"What's going on now?" She said, looking more confused than ever.

"Well, you're DAUGHTER came home late and I asked her why and she's standing here lying to my face!" Rose didn't like the way he emphasized the word "daughter". Last time she checked, she was his daughter too, not just her mother's.

"Well how do you know she's lying? You don't know that. God, sometimes you can be such an animal."

"An animal!? An animal!? Did you just call me a fucking animal!?" His fists were now clenched in fists and this scared Rose. What if he tried to hit her mother? Rose was hyper-ventilating, hoping their arguing would stop. She would rather have him yell at her than at her mother.

Rose noticed her mother's face had a nonchalance look to it. Maybe she wasn't scared of her father... but that made her wonder why she hadn't stopped him from hitting her then.

Then she saw her father swing.

A/N: Short I know, sorry. I'll add more to it later .
