Chapter Four
Broken Promises...
When we got downstairs Clay opened a cabinet above the sink in his kitchen. “Do you want a drink?” He called out. I entered the kitchen and smiled lightly. “Please.” He grabbed two glasses and paused, heading to the fridge. “Water or,” Clay opened the fridge and glanced in. “Pomegranate Juice?” I chuckled at the way Clay was examining the bottle of POM. “Water will be fine.” Clay set the POM back in the fridge and turned on the sink, filling each glass. I walked over and sat at the bar in the middle of the kitchen, Clay grabbed a stool and sat across from me. “So..” He said. “Yea.” I replied This was more awkward than I thought it was gonna be. “So Now what?” I asked.Clay looked down into his glass. “I don’t know Rai. But I have to say I wouldn’t mind more of what just happened.” I smiled. “Me either. But let’s relax a bit before we get back at it ok?” I said teasingly. He rose his head to look me in the eye. “This doesn’t change anything right?” Clay asked as his eyes filled with worry. “Right, we are still together and we probably always will be. I have one question. Who did you lose your virginity too? If I may ask.” Clay’s eyes smiled at my curiosity. “Remember that girl I dated, Kenzie?”
I nodded. “Her, she turned out to be like a super slut and she was like really good. That was my first time. My second time was with Rach.”
“Oh, I see. So I was your third. You would be surprised to know you are my fifth opposite sex sex partner.” Clay’s eye’s widened. “Really?” He inquired. “Yup.” I said hoping he would ask who, knowing he would be conflicted about his brother. “Who?” Damn it! “Uh, let’s see. Fallon Kings, Joseph Hinks, and Luke Jenkings.” I hoped and prayed he wouldn’t notice that was only three but with my luck he would. “That’s only three.” CALLED IT!!! “Uh, yea. The fourth was my first actually,” I heard footsteps on the stairs. “Um, It was Vic.” I whispered the last word. “Huh? I couldn’t hear you.” I prepared myself gathering up the courage. “I lost my virginity 10 months ago to Vic.” That’s when I noticed him. Vic, in the room, standing in the doorframe. Clay must of to, because his eyes were locked on Vic. Than he looked to me. “WHAT?? Vic like that Vic, My brother Vic. Victor Hector Tallish, Vic?” Vic spoke up then. “Yes, this Vic.” Clay’s eyes shot to him. “When?” Vic cleared his throat. “Ten months ago, when she stayed over for that movie marathon about Zombies. She walked in on me getting ready to shower. I..I kinda lost my control and well I told her about my feelings for her, that by the way you knew about, and she said that she felt the same, so we got naked and made love in the upstairs shower while you were sleeping. She went with me to my room after and fell asleep. I carried her to the guest room and went back to bed. Than I ignored her, thinking maybe she could do better than an idiotic pothead. I was hoping you would make a move on her, little bro, than you did the day after I had finally given up on trying to stay away. I don’t really care now as long as she’s happy.” Vic stood there relaxed but in his eyes you could see his hurt. I wanted to run over and hug him. But I knew better. Clay stood up and started walking to the door that led to the garage. “Clay! Wait.” The door slammed behind him. “God, I’m such a horrid person.” I got up and walked over to Vic. “Are you okay?” Vic looked down. “I was telling the truth you know, about me giving up. I couldn’t take it anymore.” Clay stormed back in that moment. “I decided we are done. You obviously care more about him than me. So I hope you two are happy. Rai, I hope we can stay friends, I’m doing this because I know your heart belongs to Vic.” Clay walked over to me and slapped me. “Wait, that was a lie. Just like you lied to me! You selfish bitch!” Vic stepped forward. “That was too far Clay.” Vic punched Clay in the face. Clay fell to the ground, his nose crooked and bleeding. “Don’t ever touch her again.” Vic half growled. Vic walked over to me and I fell into his arms.“Rai, wait! I’m so sorry!” I could hear Clay yell. Vic picked me up and brought me upstairs to his room. His friends were all sitting around when Vic kicked his door open. “Ok, everyone out of my house.” Nobody moved. “Now!” Vic yelled. The group filed out quickly and the last one closed the door behind him. Vic sat on the bed holding me close. Then I started crying, my head buried in his chest. I usually don’t cry much but when your best friend turned boyfriend slaps you in the face and calls you a selfish bitch, you tend to get emotional. Vic rubbed my back comfortingly. “It’s okay Raina. My sweet Raina. Shhh.. Don’t cry.” I than realized I was still wearing Clay’s shirt. I looked up at Vic. “Vic?” He looked away from the door and down at me. He must have been waiting for Clay to barge through the door to hit me more. “Yes, My dearest.” Ok...? “Can I barrow a shirt..This is Clay’s and..” Vic nodded. “I get it. One sec.” He set me on the bed and got up, heading to his closet. He pulled out a black button up shirt and pulled it off the hanger. He walked back over to the bed and handed me the shirt. I noticed that his long black hair was falling out of the loose ponytail that he kept it in. I grabbed the shirt and Vic turned around. “What are you doing?” I asked truly confused. “Giving you privacy.” It’s amazing what happens when Vic goes sober for a few days, he turns into the perfect gentleman. But me being me I’m gonna question it. “Why you’ve seen me naked before.” I stated. Vic sighed. “Just put the shirt on Raina, before I change my mind and do something stupid.” I peeled off Clay’s shirt and put on Vic’s button up. “K, done.” Vic turned around and smiled. “That shirt does you much justice dear girl.” I giggled. “Thank you.” I said, feeling the blood in my face rush, creating a pinkish blush in my cheeks. “Like that, that’s adorable.” He whispered barely audible. I recalled once again the conversation that we had had that night. He had said that exact same thing. I got up and walked to him. I hugged him tightly. “Thank you.” His arms wrapped around me. “Don’t thank me, I was just keeping you safe.” We stood like that for a long time then he pulled me away from him far enough to to see my face. And then he kissed me lightly on the lips and pulled away. “It’s time for you to go home Raina.” I nodded. I needed to talk to a friend. Too bad the on friend who promised me that we would never be apart and would always be there when I needed them slapped me and pretty much told me to fuck off. Vic led me downstairs. And there was Clay. Laying on the floor. With a bullet in his head and a gun with a silencer in his hand. Clay had killed himself and it was all my fault. I screamed. Vic pulled me close and grabbed his phone. I quickly scrambled out of Vic’s protective arms and ran to Clay’s still body. I wrapped my arms around Clay and cried. “You weren’t supposed to leave me. You said never. Why? Why did you leave me?” I screamed over and over. As soon as Vic hung up he ran over to me. He pulled me away from Clay and brought me outside. All I remember was saying Clay’s name over and over and some paramedic trying to put an oxygen mask. Plus one other thing. Clay was still breathing.
