He didn't know how much time had passed, but he didn't care.
They lay together, Magnus's arm around Cleo as they gazed up at the dark expanse. The moon had moved lower across the sky, but the stars maintained their endless twinkling performance. A few of the candles had burned out, but all it did was add to the scene.
"I wish we could do this every night," Cleo murmured next to his ear. "I didn't think we would be as busy as we are being king and queen."
Magnus shifted closer to her, if that was even possible at this point. "Don't worry about that right now, princess. It's only you and me."
Cleo's lips curved in a smile, and she glanced at him. "The fact that you still persist to call me that leaves me baffled."
He grunted and shrugged. "It has grown on me over time." He looked over at her, her glowing, beryl eyes traveling across the distance of the sky, taking in every star visible. Suddenly, she turned to meet his stare, her azure orbs twinkling, just like the stars, in pleasure.
"What is the point of being out here when you're gazing at me more than the stars?" Her words held a hint of laughter in them.
He replied to her with his own question. "Would you rather I avert my eyes from you for the rest of the night?"
"If we were kissing for the rest of the night, yes." With that, Cleo placed her lips upon his, causing his heart to be set on fire with the passion he yearned, but just when he began to beg for more, she pulled away and returned to the stars.
"It seems you are teasing me now, princess," he sighed with difficulty.
Cleo smirked, but in the next moment her eyes widened as she gasped. She pointed up to the sky. "Magnus, look!"
The king tore his gaze away from her, hoping this wasn't some kind of ruse to make him actually look up at the sky instead of her. He quickly saw, however, that there was no ploy as his eyes landed upon two horizontal streaks flashing across the sky, side by side, disappearing as quickly as they arrived.
He kept his gaze where the streaks had vanished in case they appeared again. "Were those... shooting stars?"
"Yes." Cleo shuffled beside him, laying her left hand on his chest. After she hadn't spoken in some seconds, Magnus looked down from the sky and at her, where she was already looking up toward him. Her eyes glowed like two, small, aquamarine crystals. Her voice came softly, and rather enticingly, causing a shiver of pleasure course through him. "It seems even the universe approves of our love."
