The room was silent and empty as I rested my head against my arms, thinking about nothing. In fact, thinking about something was useless. The crows could come in at any moment and take us away to a place not even the bravest man would like to explore, the well.
I was so lost in the silence that I did not notice my mother stroking my head in an attempt to cheer me up. Turning my head toward her I came upon a pale face and a weak but genuine smile, planted in her mouth, making me smile back. Despite this crisis, she always sees the bright side of the situation. My father went out to buy supplements and did not come back, in fact, nobody came back, not even the animals. That's why the streets are as empty as the houses ... they were scared, and now, one by one is taken away...
"When will he come back ...?" I spoke suddenly, startling my mother. "Soon." she said with a look of mistrust, and went to her room. I closed my eyes. I could almost feel her sadness. I was not sad, but frightened. This place wasn't like this, but more like a normal and simple neighborhood, until they came... I got up from the chair, and, halfway to the kitchen I heard a snow crunch. Crunch, crunch, crunch... My ears lowered as I took a step back, seeing the huge shadow behind the window and hearing a knock on the door. Slowly, I walked towards the door, lowering the cold knob. I stopped. I didn't want to do it, but thinking about something was useless. Opening the door, which made a tearful noise, I forced my eyes closed, and felt a strong hug, surprising me. I opened my eyes immediately and came upon a tall, gray- furred canabra. Father. I hugged him as hard as I could, but my strength was very small compared to his. My mother heard all the noise and came running to find out if I was okay, forgetting everything else after she saw Anthony, and ran to hug him too, crying. Already to be expected, she was very emotional, crying easly. I, on the other hand, lost my emotions at that moment. Weird. I stopped hugging him and looked at him blankly, as if what I was seeing did not exist, in fact as if nothing around existed.
Anthon looked at me doubtfully and put his hand on my shoulder, and my mother repeated the same. I looked down and looked at them again, this time with a weak smile, and went back to the table where I was sitting first, returning to the state without thinking. The night was the same, a slow but simple routine. After dinner, which, too, was simple, I went to bed without speaking a word to my parents. I wanted to go into deep sleep, a dreamless sleep, with no dreams nor nightmares.
Closing my eyes, I only heard the "cawing" of the pale crow, who leaned on the wooden window, looking at my face with a possessive look. Their sounds were like a lullaby, despite their morbid nature, making me enter such a deep sleep ...
