Surprise Attack

Annie's POV

6 days post baby

I was home alone with Kali for 3 hours because Brian had to go get groceries. I didn't really like the idea of me being alone when a bunch of things could happen, like witnessing a murder or being kidnapped. But I sucked it up.

After I finally managed to get Kali to sleep, I went downstairs to get some food. I started eating Nutella out of the jar until I heard a door creaking. I shrugged it off. It was probably the wind. But then I remembered that I didn't leave any of the windows open.

I tiptoed up the stairs, no weapons in hand. I checked in all of the rooms, nobody was in any of them. Then I checked Kali's room. I found Kali's crib completely empty. "Kali!" I screamed. I rushed out of the Disney decorated room. "Kali!"

I thought of calling Brian, but he left his phone at home. I swore under my breath after I found out the the phone lines were cut. I couldn't find my phone. I was so screwed.

Suddenly, I heard a loud sound, followed by Kali's crying. It was coming from her room. I once again sprinted up the stairs and into Kali's room. She was lying there in tears. How did she get back in there? She was out of the crib just a minute ago.

After I comforted Kali back to sleep, I was heading towards the door. Before I could even reach the handle, a powerful body wrapped itself around me, cupped their hand over my mouth and held a knife under my throat. I tried to scream, but I couldn't make a noise.

"Miss me, Annie?" Joey. It was Joey. "I bet you did."

"Let me tell you a short little story. Once, there was a man who wanted nothing more one thing: revenge on his oldest brother. You see, his oldest brother had stolen everything that was ever important to the man: his reputation, his girl, everything. Then, one day, the was-supposed-to-be girl of the man's had a baby. But the baby didn't belong to the man, it belonged to the oldest brother. The baby was supposed to be the man's baby. Eventually, after the man gathered up his little plan and his little team, they got into the oldest brother's house. They got to the oldest brother's house, only to find that only the girl and the baby were home. So you know what they did, Annie? They killed the girl and the man took the baby for his own."

I could tell this story was about Brian and I, along with Kali. I noticed Joey's grip loosening on me. If he let go a little more, I could escape. But I decided to risk it. I surprisingly slipped out of his arms easily. What shocked me was that he didn't try to grab me again.

"I'm not finished. Do you know who killed the girl?"

I shook my head.

"You see, the oldest brother had made a pact with the man: that he would help the man with any of his revenge. Pacts always stay, right? Right. So you know what happens next? The oldest brother comes home to find his precious family being held at knife point. But, instead of saving his 'precious' family, he pulls out his fancy little knife. And who does he kill?"

I couldn't believe the words coming out of Joey's mouth. Brian wouldn't ever kill. "No," I choke out through silent sobs. Another person wraps themselves around me and snakes a knife around my neck. It's Meredith. I don't fight at all. But when Joey reaches into the crib to take out Kali, I start panicking and screaming. Even when Meredith is clamping my mouth shut, I still scream.

Suddenly, I hear several pairs of feet, rushing up the stairs. Was it the the other killers? Were they coming for me?

The footsteps stopped at the closed door. I inhaled deeply as the knob turned. When the door opened, my heart sank into my stomach. It was Brian. Just as Joey said, he pulled out a long, freshly sharpened knife.

He took one step towards me when I suddenly heard Meredith fall. I looked back and noticed she had something stuck in her leg. She pulled it out. A dart, covered in blood, dangled in her shaking hands. Everyone looked behind Brian. We stared into the hallway and I gasped. At the end of the hall stood Nick Lang and Walker, holding dart guns in their hands.

"They're onto us, take the baby!" Meredith yelled. She, Brian and Joey, along with my baby, were in the hall in seconds. I followed after them, until I reached the bottom of the stairs.

"Annie!" Lauren yelled. I caught the pair of scissors and followed the killers.
