[Main Character's POV]

All I remember was the color blue...

A bright and brilliant shade of it, surrounding me in every direction.

It felt like someone had dropped a boulder on my chest...

I couldn't breathe...

When I tried, instead of air, an icy cold liquid filled my lungs

It felt like a thousand knives were stabbing me in the chest from the inside out...

And then before I knew it my world went black...

I could feel something soft but coarse against my back as every part of my body ached in pain. As my eyes fluttered open, I was blinded by the intense light of the sun beating down on my soaking wet body. As my eyes adjusted in the bright sunlight I noticed that I was laying on a empty beach with a thick line of trees lining the sand for as far as the eye could see. I sat up and examined the area around me. A large piece of driftwood lay to my right and a few fragments of unrecognizable objects lay scattered around me in all directions. I had no idea where I was or how I had gotten there.

When I looked down, inspecting the source of all the intense pains that I felt radiating up from my limbs, I saw that I had scratches and bruises covering my arms and legs and upon further examination I noticed that I had a large gash just under my knee. I don't remember my profession, and I couldn't know for sure, but I had a feeling that the wound would normally of needed stitches. I also wasn't wearing any clothes. The only garments concealing my private areas were two thin piece of fabric that wrapped around my waist and chest. I just simply had to assume were once fine undergarments...

I turned over and as I attempted to stand my legs screamed in pain. But I forced myself to stand so that I could get my bearings and further assess my surroundings. I glanced up the beach to my right, and then to my left desperately hoping to find something or someone that could help. But there was nothing. I was completely and utterly alone. At this point I started to panic and I felt my heart start to race as I frantically scanned the treeline.

"Just stay calm..." I told myself. Willing my heart to beat at a slower pace. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. "5... 4... 3... 2... 1..." I counted backwards with my eyes closed and my hand on my chest. When I opened my eyes again I felt much better and I started to come up with a plan. I looked up at the sky, and judging by the position of the sun, I knew that I had only a few hours before nightfall. So I decided my best option was to look for a shelter.

I made my way towards the trees and as I approached them I saw that a thick jungle lay behind it. I walked along the treeline for a ways until I found a wide opening in the trees. I trekked my way through the thick foliage. I ignored the pain as several branches and thorns tore away at my flesh as I continued walking. I kept my eyes forward and after about an hour I came to a clearing. A few feet ahead lay a small opening backed up to a large cliff. At the base of the cliff was a small cave. As long as there were no other creatures already inhabiting the cave, it would provide adequate shelter for the long night to come.
