Winter comes / Winter crushed all of the things that I once had.

I collapsed on the couch and buried my head in my hands.
What a pretty situation to be in.
"This is horrible!" I exclaimed, my voice muffled by my sweatshirt. I got homesick very easily, and who knew how long I would be stuck there.
I had to get home to my parents and my warm bed and a dinner of chili with apple pie for dessert. I couldn't stay here.
Ashton sat next to me.
"Pretty much, yeah."
I looked over at him to see his head resting in his open palms.
"How long do you think it will be before the storm passes?" I asked, lifting my head and glancing at the television.
"The news says the warning will last until eight pm, but they could extend it." Ashton said.
"I gotta call my parents," I mumbled.
I pulled out my phone and dialed my mom's number.
"Evelyn?" My mom's voice rang through the speakers.
"Hi mom." I said, sighing.
"You aren't home yet from that boy's house. Are you okay? It's snowing pretty hard outside." My parents weren't big fans of TV, so they probably hadn't seen the news.
"Yeah, well I'm actually staying at Ashton's house. The news says it's not safe to drive, and it's supposed to get a lot worse. I might have to spend the night, in fact." I explained, grimacing.
"Ashton? Is that the boy who's tutoring you?"
We moved to New York a month ago, in the middle of the school year, and I'd never been that good at school anyway, so my teacher suggested I got a tutor to help me catch up. We asked around, and eventually someone told us about Ashton, who was a freshman in college. I was a senior in high school.
"Yeah, mom." I said, rolling my eyes at my mom's horrible memory.
"Alright. Be safe. Come home as soon as you can."
"Okay. Love you."
"Love you too. Oh, and Evelyn?"
"Yeah?"
"Your father and I approve of Ashton."
I groaned. My mom was always trying to set me up with boys, and it was kind of annoying. I mean, it's better than her not even allowing me to date, but it was also super embarrassing.
"Mom!"
She giggled. "I'm just letting you know."
"Mom," I lowered my voice and glanced at Ashton. "I am not dating Ashton. I barely know him. And neither do you, for that matter."
She laughed the laugh I recognized as oh, that's just crazy talk. "Oh, nonsense! He's been tutoring you for almost a month now, surely you know him at least a little!"
"Mom. . . ," I groaned.
"Okay, okay. Have fun! Bye, sweetie!"
"Bye mom." I said, hanging up the phone.
I looked at Ashton to find him grinning at me widely.
"What?" I asked, my cheeks reddening.
"Was your mum trying to set us up?" He asked, poking my side.
I covered my cheeks. "Oh, god, you heard that? Um, well. . ."
"She was!" He started laughing uncontrollably.
"Well. . ."

I'm trying to space this out since obviously a blizzard can only last so long and either way this is gonna be pretty short and yeah. also i realize it's mostly dialogue and... i don't really know what to say about that. sorry i guess?
Also you can probably tell that Evelyn's pretty dramatic, and i did that on purpose. it's just part of her character
dedicated to @sugarplumluke bc idk she's cool and i like her book Afraid which by the way you should totally read you WILL NOT regret it (btw this is the second account of the girl @machinery you were talking with a bit lol)
