Romeo and Juliet (Alternate Ending)

This is a modern version of Romeo and Juliet. Well the talking is at least. No Old English.

Romeo is banished for killing Tybalt. Juliet finds out she’s going to marry Paris and goes to Friar Lawrence for help. But the Friar can’t think of anything and sends her home heartbroken, destined to marry Paris. The wedding is postponed because the Capulets realize Juliet needs time to mourn. Juliet finds herself spending a lot of time with Paris and soon forgets Romeo and starts to love Paris. The day of the wedding comes. Juliet is in her room getting ready.

            Scene one

Juliet: I think I’m finally starting to warm up to the idea of getting married. This time I can have a real wedding and my husband won’t be banished for murdering my uncle.

Lady Capulet: What did you say, Juliet?

Juliet: Nothing Mother, just that I’m ready to go.

Lady Capulet: Finally. You seem much happier to be wed than you did yesterday.

Juliet: Things changed. I realize I’m lucky to be marrying such a wonderful man.

Lady Capulet: Good. Time to go.

Juliet: Before we do, can you please call in Father so he can see how I look before it starts?

Lady Capulet: Of course, Juliet.

Lady Capulet goes to get Lord Capulet. Meanwhile, Juliet pulls out a knife and hides it behind her back. Lord and Lady Capulet come in just a she hides it.

Lord Capulet: Oh Juliet, you look wonderful. I’m so glad you seem happy to marry Paris. He’s a fine man.

Juliet: I’m sure he is, Father. You just won’t be there to see us get married. You’ll be dead along with Mother. It’s what you both deserve for treating me horribly and forcing me into this. Never mind that I want to now, what about before? You’re both horrible parents and I can’t stand either of you any longer. Goodbye.

Lord Capulet: What are you talking about, child? Are you quite all ri-

Lord Capulet is cut off because Juliet stabbed him. It was a fatal wound and he dies instantly. Lady Capulet screams. Her screams are cut off because Juliet stabbed her as well. She also dies instantly.

Juliet: Good Riddance. I can’t have my good for nothing parents ruining my wedding day, now can I? And I didn’t even get blood on my dress. I shall lock this room so no one comes in and tend to the bodies after the wedding.

Juliet leaves and locks the room.

[End Scene One]

Scene 2

The wedding just started. Juliet has walked the isle and is now standing next to Paris, facing him.

Paris: Why did no one walk you up the aisle?

Juliet: Oh, I couldn’t find my parents. It’s a shame, but what can you do?

Paris: I see. Well let’s get on with this then.

The Priest says whatever is said before a wedding. He asks Juliet if she takes Paris to be her husband.

Juliet: I do.

The Priest then asks Paris if he takes Juliet to be his wife.

Paris: I do.

Priest: Then you may kiss the bride.

A minute passes and Paris still hasn’t kissed Juliet.

Juliet: Paris, aren’t you going to kiss me? We need a kiss to seal our marriage.

Paris leans in and tilts her chin up to him.

Paris: Oh Juliet, if only somebody loved you.

Paris then slips a knife out from his sleeve and stabs her. But her death is not instant. She gets to watch Paris brutally murder everyone at the wedding.

Juliet: Why are you doing this?

Paris: I never loved you. All I wanted was your money and power. Now I can have it.

Right at that moment, Romeo comes bursting through the doors.

Romeo: STOP THE WEDDING!

Juliet and Paris: ROMEO? WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE?

Romeo: I heard you were getting married I couldn’t let that happen. I am here to save-

Romeo stops because he sees Juliet is on the floor with blood on her. She looks pale and he knows she is dying. He’s about to ask who did this when he sees Paris holds a bloody knife in his hand.

Romeo: I will never forgive you for this, you fiend. You killed my wife. Prepare to die.

Romeo pulls out a sword he just happened to have and charges Paris. Paris is too shocked to move and Romeo stabs him in the heart and he dies right away. Romeo then runs to Juliet and holds her.

Romeo: Oh Juliet. I’m too late. I will never be whole again. I think I might kill myself as well.

Juliet: No Romeo, live on. Do not die over me. And I suppose if it’s my last chance to say it, Romeo Montague I-

Juliet dies. Romeo never hearing what she was going to say is heartbroken. He starts silently crying. Just then, the Prince rushes in. He looks around and sees the massacre. He also sees Romeo holding a bloody sword.

The Prince: What happened here? I banish you for killing one and you come back to kill more?

Romeo: No it’s not what it looks like. It was Paris.

The Prince: Nonsense. Don’t make up excuses Romeo.

The Prince then pulls out a sword, moves towards Romeo, and stabs him. But not before Romeo stabs the Prince. They both die within a few seconds.

Guard 1: What do we do? Everyone is dead.

Guard 2: Well I don’t want everyone blaming us. Let’s get out of here.

They both hurry out. A few minutes later, Benvolio comes in. He starts talking to all the dead bodies.

Benvolio: Paris, you have failed me. Your job was to kill everyone but Juliet. Juliet was to be mine. Now Romeo is dead as well as the Prince. What a shame. Though I suppose all wealth of everyone here goes to me now. I’ll be rich.

Benvolio laughs evilly and starts taking jewelry and other priceless things from the dead bodies.

The End

Note: Sorry it’s really suckish. This is my first time writing an alternate ending (unless you count sixth grade when I made an extra chapter). I hope you like it though. See if you can find all the references. There are three. Pretty please tell me what you think of it.
