Blind Date

His knee bounced impatiently as he waited for his so called 'date'. He didn't agree to it of course but his friend, Aphmau, insisted. Zane sighed as he took a sip of his coffee, pulling down his mask just enough to take a drink.

Aphmau has been telling him to get out of the house more and meet new people. A few days later she called him up, telling him that she found a girl for him.

Zane rested his chin on the palm of his hand. He had been waiting for nearly 15 minutes. He was about to start gathering his things until he felt a gentle tap on his shoulder. Zane turned around and saw the pinkest girl he had ever seen.

"Um... Are you Zane?"

A pair of apricot eyes peered down and him with uncertainty and nervousness.

"Yes I am. You must be Kawaii~Chan I suppose?"

Her shoulders relaxed, glad to get the right person. She nodded and took a seat in front of him. Her hands rested on her lap while she averted her eyes.

"I... I'm sorry if I kept you waiting. I was super nervous before coming, so I took way longer fixing myself up than usual."

She giggled nervously, rubbing her hands on her knees.

Zane shrugged. "It's no problem. I thought Aphmau was lying when se said she found a girl for me. And trust me, I don't think any girl would want me."

He sighed and stirred his spoon around in his coffee.

"Well... I'm here aren't I?"

Zane looked at her face and was a little taken aback by her statement. Kawaii~Chan smiled warmly at him, tail swaying nervously.

"So... Miss Chan. What do you do on your free time?" Zane said taking a sip of his coffee. Kawaii~Chan's face lit up with unexpected brightness.

"Kawaii~Chan is a magicks user! She has learned animation magicks so she can control multiple dolls at once to do chores or to protect her! Kawaii~Chan also bakes a whole bunch."

She twirled her hair between her fingers smiling at her abilities. Zane raised his eyebrows impressed.

"Where did the third person speaking come from?"

Kawaii~Chan blushed softly and tugged at a lock of hair.

"O-Oh! Sorry, Kawa-, I mean, I do that when I get over excited. I used to do it a lot in Highschool and it became a habit, but I'm trying to get better and trying to speak normally."

Zane nodded. A waiter came over to their table and gave Kawaii~Chan a drink. She mumbled a thank you in confusion.

"I️ got you a drink before hand and told them to bring it when or if you showed up. I️ hope you don't mind."

Kawaii~Chan thanked him and poured in sugar and cream to make it how she would like. Zane took this time to get a good look at her. Something about her was familiar. Like she's seen her before.

"So, Miss Chan, how did you meet Aphmau in the first place?"

Kawaii~Chan sipped her coffee in content and tapped her chin.

"Well, we met by complete accident. We met in Highschool during a sleep over that I️ wasn't even supposed to be invited to. It was... a little disappointing finding out that way but I'm glad we met! She's helped me a ton and she's probably one of the kindest souls ever! I'm glad it turned out this way."

Kawaii~Chan explained, the corners of her mouth lifting slightly to become a soft smile to herself.

Zane nodded and took a sip once more. He couldn't help but notice the small details about her.

The way her ears twitch when they noticed even the slightest sounds, and the way her tail sways when she talks or when she takes a drink from her mug.

"What about you, Zane? How'd you meet Aphmau?"

Zane fixed his mask and shrugged.

"Childhood friends. She used to live in our neighborhood until she moved and became homeschooled. I️ didn't see her again till Highschool, and to tell you the truth, we weren't really friends during that time. She had a crush on my brother Garroth and he did too and stuff with Laurence, it's all a big mess I️ tried to stay out of."

Zane rubbed his temple as if he didn't want to remember. Kawaii~Chan furrowed her eyebrows.

"Garroth? Blonde hair, gruff voice, tall Garroth? Breaking down doors Garroth?"

Kawaii~Chan edged her seat closer and leaned forward a little waiting patiently for a response. Zane leaned back in his chair nervously.

"Um yeah... that's my big brother, Garroth..."

Her facial expression changed with a mixture of realization and shock.

"Y-You're Zane Ro'meave! Oh my god that's why you looked so familiar!"

She jumped in her chair and grabbed onto the table. Zane glanced around nervously.

"I️s...Is that bad? I️ don't know what kind of signals you're sending me here," Zane asked.

Kawaii~Chan waved a hand around.

"No no! I'm just a little shocked because I️ remember when Aphmau would come ranting to Katelyn and I️ about you. She described you as a huge jerk who didn't love anything!"

Zane's expression fell flat and he slumped in his chair. "Wow... Thanks."

"Gah! No, I️ didn't mean it! I'm just surprised cause your one of her closest friends now and you don't seem like the person she described years ago. You seem way nicer than you look if I'm being totally honest," Kawaii~Chan laughed rubbing the back of her head.

Zane forgave her of course. He knew that she didn't mean to offend him, he was just as bad with words.

"Well, I'm glad you think that way about me. Not a lot of people tell me something nice very often."

Kawaii~Chan nodded, finishing up her coffee. They sat in silence for a little bit. It wasn't awkward and it didn't feel like it had to be filled. It was nice, calming even.

They chatted a little bit more and got up from the table.

"It was nice to actually meet you Zane. I️ hope... we can do this again?" Kawaii~Chan's voice squeaked near the end of her sentence, face tinting pink.

"Likewise, Miss Chan," Zane said, smiling under his mask.

They walked out together and parted ways, Kawaii~Chan waved goodbye to him before turning around and walking away.

Zane watched as her pink curls bounced at every step she took, tail moving slowly behind her. He chuckled to himself. Aphmau did a good job at being Cupid today.
