First order of business when Jake comes over is going directly back to sleep, I desperately need a nap.
After a couple hours of fitful sleep, I wake up to Jake sliding an arm out from under me.
His phone rings a familiar tone; Emma was calling him.
I pretend I'm still asleep, and as I hear the phone call, I am so glad that I do. As I listen, I wish I wasn't listening, but I can't stop. I absorb the words like they are the only thing that keeps me alive. I drink up the phone call like I am dying of dehydration.
You are probably expecting me to have some tragic yet poetic statement about what I heard, but that is not the case.
Unfortunately, the only thing I was thinking at that exact moment in time was four measly words.
'I fucking knew it'
It wasn't an extremely mature or thoughtful reaction, but it was the only one I could muster. The next thing I did, being the only reasonable response to what I was hearing, was bolt straight out of bed. Then Jake had a not so 'poetic' or 'mature' reaction.
"Oh shit"
Maybe not very thoughtful a thing to say, but I had to give him points for emotion. Actually a very catty part of me really wanted to hear what sort of pathetic excuse he would come up with.
"It's not what it sounds like."
"Are you sure, because I think I just heard one of my best friends telling you to marry me for money."
You all thought he was going to be cheating on me, thats what I thought too, but that is so typical. Sadly, this is not a drama on ABC, and my boyfriend is not cheating on me. It's more like a really shitty Disney movie where your best friend betrays you.
