Going Away

I was sitting at the kitchen table, minding my own business and colouring in a picture of a beautiful princess. When all of a sudden, my Mummy came in and told me I had to go to my room. I asked her why and she told me she had to talk to my sister. I skipped up the mountain of stairs and leaped into my bedroom. I wanted to be a dancer when I was older it looked like so much fun on TV and in books I'd read. I imagined turning and leaping and prancing across the stage in my astonishing, sequinned outfit designed by only the best. The crowd was focused on Me. Then my Mummh called me downstairs as I popped back into reality after my 15 minute escape. As I reached the bottom of the stairs Mummy led me into the living room and we all sat down patiently on the sofa.
"Ok Hun" Mummy said gently "as you know, we have been talking to your sister here and well, she's going away."
"WHAT?!" I shouted "Without ME? I thought we were best friends Hayley. We do EVERYTHING together."
"Listen Martha, she will be back in just a couple of days, there is nothing to worry about." Mummy exclaimed.
"I hope so. Where is she going anyway?" I asked curiously.
"Just a little journey, and I'm going with her so you and Daddy will be here for the weekend ok?"
I sighed "ok mummy, I'll miss you guys." Mummy gave me a huge cuddle and then took Hayley by the hand and led her out the door, into the car and drove away. A wave of sadness came over me as my face turned to a frown. Daddy picked me up and sat me next to him on the sofa. I snuggled him sadly with still so many questions. Where is Hayley going? Why is she going? Why couldn't I go?

On Monday morning, I woke up to the sound of Hayley and Mummy coming through the door. I pranced out of bed and ran down the stairs to see them. Mummy gave me a giant hug and a kiss in the forehead and Hayley shouted my name and said she missed me. Daddy told me to go get ready for school so I grabbed Hayley's hand and tugged at it.
"Come on Hayley, let's go!" I said enthusiastically. Mummy turned me around and told me Hayley wasn't going to school today. "She's sick" Mummy said. My frown came back and I plodded up the stairs to get dressed.

When I got home from school, I went up to Hayley's room. She wasn't there, but there was a bunch of hair on her pillow and in her bed. I went back downstairs and Daddy and Mummh were crying. I asked what was wrong and where Hayley was. They picked up up, cuddled me and said Hayley was in Hospital. I asked why
"I told you, she's sick Hun, she won't be back for a while. A long while that is" she exclaimed
"When will she be back?" I asked
"I...um...she...she won't be back any time soon." I ran to my room and started crying in my bed cuddling my blankets and teddy bears. I would miss Hayley. My best friend. My sister.

I'm now 13 years old and I now know what happened. I can't believe for all these years, I thought she would be back. I miss you Hayley. I'll see you one day. Best friend.
