chapter seven
scarlett r. waters

i sat awkwardly on his king-sized bed, my small hands in my lap as i watched him adjust his tie in the mirror.

"you can come with me if you'd like, rose." he spoke, his eyes remaining glued to the mirror.

"it's okay. i wouldn't want to get in the way." i shrug.

"you won't get in the way," he chuckles, "it'll probably be a whole lot better with you there."

"i don't know."

"it's alright, rose. i'll take you home." he sighs as he runs his hand through his hair.

"what about your clothes?"

"keep them." he chuckles, grabbing his keys and walking out of the room, making me hop up and follow him.

we walk out to his car and he unlocks it before holding the passenger side door open for me. i thank him quietly and climb in, pushing a strand of hair behind my ear.

i told him where to go as he drove and soon we were parked in front of my apartment building.

"text me if you need anything at all, okay?" he turned to me and i smiled as i nodded.

i presses a quick kiss to his soft, pink lips before opening the door of his bmw, getting out and walking up to the doors of the building.

"morning, miss waters." the young guy at the front desk who's worked here since i moved in about a year ago greeted me with a smile.

"morning." i smiled politely, but felt slightly embarrassed as i was wearing an oversized t-shirt and sweatpants that almost felt off my small waist.

i sigh as i walked over to the elevator, swinging back and forth on my heels as i waited. when i heard a small ding, the doors opened and i walked into the small empty elevator.

i pressed the small button that had the number seven printed on it, making it shine a dim yellow color before the elevator starting moving. i watched the numbers get higher until i was at my floor.

i got off and walked down the hall to 7b, pulling out my keys and unlocking the door. i let out a soft sigh i didn't know i was holding in before i shut the door behind me.

ethan g. dolan

i tapped my fingers against my desk with boredom, staring blankly at the papers i had to fill out in front of me. finally saying "screw it" in my head, i pulled out my phone and found rose's contact before calling her.

it rung a few times before she picked up. her voice was soft and she seemed tired, making me feel bad for calling her and disturbing her.

"hey, ethan."

"hey," i chuckled, "um, what're you doing?" i asked, not knowing what else to say.

"nothing really. i've just been resting a little since i have to work tonight," she sighs, "god, i hate it."

"what? your job?" i furrow my eyebrows.

"yea. it's embarrassing and i hate it, but it pays bills, i guess."

"you don't have to work there if you don't want to, rose." i say.

"well, i don't really have another option right now. i hope i can find a job as a waitress or something more practical soon. i just-"

"no, i'm serious, rose. i can help you, you know that. if you don't want to work at that club, then don't."

"it's really okay, ethan. it's not that bad, i-."

"we're going to dinner tonight." i say abruptly, interrupting her.

"what?"

"we're going to dinner, so wear something nice, yea?" a smirk grows on my face as i imagine how great she must look in one of those nice, tight dresses.

"i told you i have to work, remember?"

"yes, but i don't really care, princess. you hate the job anyways." i take a sip of the coffee that sat on my table.

"ethan, i-"

"sweetheart, please. just send me your address, be ready at 8, i'll pick you up." i hear her sigh and i can just picture the frustration on her face.

"fine." she gives in.

"perfect. i'll see you then." i hang up and lean back in my chair.

thoughts of her filled my mind the rest of the day until i got to leave and get ready for what i knew would be a great night.
