Fast forward to when the child was about six. It was June of 2009 and the child had a sibling who was just about One year old. The child's parents and her mother's parents decided to go on a trip to see the mother's grandmother for one of the last times.
Grandmother as they called her lived all the way in California, while they lived in Iowa. The trip was supposed to take three days, but instead took five. They drove by car, and one of the two vehicles kept getting flat tires. So it took longer than it should have.
The childs memories are vivid, and the one memory she can recall is her 7th birthday. She had an ice cream cake with blue frosting, and the frosting was decorated with frosting ice cream cones. The cake itself was chocolate with chocolate ice cream. And her little sister made quite the mess of herself.
