Simon groans at the sound of his mum yelling his name. His eyelids not being able to stay in a open state, he decides to push the covers off himself. He lays there for awhile before sitting up. Simon had sighed, treading today as he would have to stand up in front of thousands of towners for a dumb 'Assignment Day.
He had noticed a crack in his door to reveal his dad. He looked up at him before dramatically rolling out of bed.
"Yeah, yeah. I'm going dad." He reassures him, heading towards his wardrobe."Just checking up on you. Your mum is wondering what you would like?" He bellowed. Simon shrugs picking out a nice t-shirt with jeans from his wardrobe.
"I'll have marmite toast, I guess." Simon replies, grabbing his towel from the top of the furniture. His dad sends one single nod, before rushing behind him to the shower.
**
Simon had changed and had eaten his toast whilst he saw his mum start crying in front of him. It was sort of awkward to him but he didn't know how to react. He was off to town, a book clinging to his hands and his backpack weighing his back. He felt a tap on his shoulder seeing Vik smiling back at him. He showed a nod before returning to his book and Vik swung to his side. Simon didn't blink an eye.
"Hi Simon." Vik croaked. Obviously he held it in because he was a bit nervous to talk to the boy he thought was absolutely gorgeous in front of him. He didn't really want to be a pest to him however.
"Hello." Simon replied, not moving a bit from his book to notice Vik staring at him with adoring eyes.
"Uhm, you excited?" He asked, biting his lip in order to stop the blush creeping up on his face. Simon sighed, realizing Vikram was going to try to have a conversation. He shut his book and held it to his side.
"Not really, wanna get it over with honestly." He said, finally looking at Vik to see him eyeing him weirdly. Simon gave a weak smile as he immediately looked down.
"Oh. Well I hope it goes well. Dinho and I will be here to support. However that will be." He said, smiling widely. Simon nodded briskly. They continued walking forwards in a little bit of silence.
"I'm having a party, it's with family and friends. You and Harry can come, if you both want?""Of course! Uh, i'll ask Harry." He spoke, causing Simon to grin.
"Great, see you Vik." Simon said, before waving him off and taking longer strides. Simon sighed before placing his book back in his bag and headed towards the big stage. There was a few other students there but it was still quite early.
He fiddled around as he didn't have much to do and couldn't be bothered to dive back into his book. He looks around at his surroundings, watching others interacts and making a fantasy about their lives in his head.
Simon notices a fancy car driving towards the main area, and sneered at the thought of them showing off. He brushed off his shirt, and continued to stare off at the skyline.
Josh walked out of the car, with a nervous feeling barreling in his stomach. He had tried to invite Clara but she had politely declined. His father was sat in the front and His mum had sat with him as their driver was occupying the drivers seat.
Once he glanced at the stage he saw the beautiful blond. His darkened blond locks, with his blue eyes staring towards the equally blue skylight. His bright shirt fit his complexion nicely and Josh was in awe.
"Joshua!" He had been snapped out of his gaze to see his dad shouting his name. His mum was giving a warning glance as his father was glaring at him. "What is up with you?" His father snarled, and Josh just rolled his eyes.
All three had gotten out of the car as the chairs near the stage were starting to fill up. He had walked towards the corner of the first row where both his mum and his seat was reserved as Mr. Bradley runs to the back of the stage.
Josh goes to look back at the pretty blond until he notices that's Simon is the one staring at him. He nervously looks down before taking his mother's hand and holding it. He's always done that, she enjoyed being close to her son. Just like he was when he was younger.
Simon notices the rest of the year 12's sit to the stage and Mayor Bradley heading towards the microphone.
"Today is the 20th annual Assignment day." He had started, and from then Simon had started to zone out. He realised that this moment would change his life for the better or the worse. Simon had hoped to just become a librarian and have the dream of living and working in a world that was endless with stories and different personalities but his parents had hoped he would work with the mayor or become an owner of one of the businesses that were up for grabs but he was never a socialite so his parents didn't expect much.
His eyes had rolled back to the brunette sitting not far in front of him. He was in his clear view, being covered the tiniest bit by his father on the stage. Simon had been curious on this boy and was still shook up he was the mayor's son. Josh had seemed so polite and genuine, not what had expected from such a higher classmen. He noticed though he wasn't on stage with him. Maybe he had already had a job? Maybe he's just next in line to be the new mayor. And that's what made him scoff out loud. Even if he is so nice and polite, he's still going to be the new mayor. And still keep everyone here in this shithole where no one belongs, and Simon knew he couldn't do anything to stop him.
Josh to him looked like a boy that admired his father. That wants and dreams to be in his footsteps, like a little baby. Simon had this feeling that he knew he was better than that but that wouldn't change anything. He's still the mayor's entitled ol' son.
All this thinking took his mind off of such a big thing that was about to happen, that he didn't hear his name being called multiple times.
"Simon!" Mayor Bradley had scolded once more. Simon had looked around, noticing everyone had been staring at him, even the little mayor's boy, who had a confused look on his face. 'Shit' he must've seen him staring. Simon mentally cursed at himself before getting up and walking up near the mayor. Simon had shaken his hand, even though he definitely didn't want to and waited to hear his results.
"Well then, back to reality," Bradley spoke, cracking a joke which the crowd had taken to and laughed at his nonhumorous self. Simon stayed blank, and he noticed most of the audience was laughing except Joshua. He seemed to have more of a frown on his face then anything.
"Simon Minter, a very intelligent, bright kid within these past years. Always excelled in school and very humble kid. Maybe a bit deaf too." He joked once, more but Simon didn't twitch nor care about him or his jokes anymore.
"I'd like to announce with great honour that Simon Minter is the new mayor assistant!" He announced. And just like that Simon didn't know anywhere he didn't want to be more. He was so angry, so angry at himself. Why couldn't he have just failed a few of the questions, just so he wouldn't have to be in this position? And even if he's the new mayor's assistant, he doesn't even social well at all. Not also speaking of how he's basically deaf. The whole crowd saw his face drop, but he put on a fake smile, nodded and walked back to his seat. He never wanted to drop out of the face of the earth more than how much he wanted to right now.
