I didn't know what to say to Jackson so I just shrugged, he looked disappointed and shocked. "Why would you let him do that?" Jackson asked while his eyebrows scrunched together in confusion.
"Maybe because he took me on a date." I stated bluntly. His eyebrows shot up at my response, "Why are you acting like this? I just care about you, gosh." He said walking towards the door.
I looked at him with a confused glare, "Where are you going? It's movie night." I said this while stepping in front of the door. "I just thought I should go, maybe you need sometime to think about who's been there for you all these years." Jackson said, I was honestly hurt. "Jackson." I said urging him to look at me, and when he did his expression was full of hurt. "I'm sorry I'm so protective of you, I don't mean to be. It just sort of happens." Jackson said with a shrug, " I'm sorry I care so much about you, I'm sorry for overreacting, I'm sorry about a lot of things. I'm a crappy best friend." Jackson concluded while looking from my brown eyes to the ground.
I was shocked, did Jackson actually think what he said was true? Because it's not, Jackson is the best friend everyone dreams of having. It was actually making me tear up that he thought of himself like that.
I grabbed Jackson's jaw and turned his head so that he was staring into my eyes. At that same moment a tear slid down my cheek, Jackson lifted his hand up to wipe the tear away then caressed my cheek.
"None of that is true Jackson." I said, while pleading him with my eyes to believe me. He nodded and tilted his head over a little, still making full eye contact with me. His green eyes were so pretty, I could stare into them forever.
Jackson tilted my chin up a little bit, our faces now only separated by a couple inches. He started leaning his face closer to mine. His eyes flickered to my lips which were formed into a smile.
I then heard the front door starting to open and in walked my mom, she looked at our close proximity before saying, "Am I interrupting something?" With a confused look on her face. No nothing at all mom I said inside my head. As my mom said that Jackson dropped his hand to his side and stepped away from me.
"Nope nothing at all Ms. Porter." Jackson replied, I found it weird that he was still calling her Ms. Porter after all these years. My mom nodded and walked around us whispering "Goodnight guys." As she went up the stairs.
Jackson cleared his throat then said, "Uh, what movie do you wanna watch?" I couldn't focus on anything, was Jackson just about to kiss me? I got butterflies in my stomach just thinking about it.
"Nat?" Jackson said looking concerned. "Yeah? Um you can pick." I said, I was to focused on the fact that I almost got kissed by my best friend, the guy I've liked since eighth grade.
"Okay how about Just go with it?" Jackson asked. Just go with it was one of my all time favorite movies. I smiled and nodded, "Sounds good to me." I said shrugging.
We walked into the living room and Jackson put in the movie as I got comfy. I was laying down on my big soft couch, I had a big cozy blanket wrapped around my body to keep warm.
After Jackson put the movie in he came and sat down, he lifted up my head and set the pillow and my head back down in his lap. Then he pressed play and the movie started. Jackson started playing with my hair and I felt myself becoming sleepy.
I snuggled more into the pillow and I slowly felt myself falling asleep while Jackson still played with my hair.
But before I fell asleep completely I felt a buzzing, it was Jackson's phone, he was getting a call. Jackson shifted positions to take it out if his pocket. He then whispered, "Hey Tucker, what do you need, man?" Jackson was silent for a few moments before replying, "Yeah, no she already fell asleep. Yeah man I can't believe she let him kiss her." Jackson paused then said, "Yeah man I know, she looked beautiful tonight, Ben's a lucky guy." He paused again before responding, "Ya I'm pretty lucky to have her as a best friend." I felt a slight smile appearing on my lips. Jackson continued, "Yeah man I know, I just wish I was the guy for her, but she has Ben now. And she's happy and I'm not going to mess that up for her, even if I think he's a bad guy."
I was slowly drifting off into a deep sleep, but before I slept I heard Jackson whisper "Bye Tucker." I heard him sigh, and say "I love you Nat." It's not like it was the first time he had ever said it but it felt special now.
I finally fell asleep, snuggling into Jackson, he was so warm and I was starting to feel cold. I felt Jackson wrap his arm around me. Warmth came over me and I was out for the night, drifting into a deep sleep.A few hours later
I woke up and looked around, my eyes still adjusting to the darkness. I looked up and Jackson was sleeping. I could feel his chest moving up and down as he inhaled and exhaled.
It was so peaceful I fell asleep yet again. The next morning
I woke up from feeling of slight movement underneath me, I closed my eyes for another couple minutes before opening my eyes again. And when I looked up I saw him and his beautiful green eyes.
Then the memories of last night came back to my mind. My date with Ben, Jackson's phone call and most importantly the almost kiss.
The kiss I almost shared with Jackson, my best friend.***
