Chapter One Akemae's perspective
"Excuse me, sir." I said irritably. I was at the front of the line in a crowded video game store called Game Valley.
"Yes, um, sorry miss." Said the pudgy man behind the overflowing desk, "I will be with you in a moment."
I coughed audibly and eyed him up and down. What a foolish man he must be. "Do you know who I am?"
The man didn't even bother to look up at me. "Yes, yes, I hear that line everyday. Let me guess you're Obama's granddaughter? Or are you, perhaps, Abraham Lincoln's great descendent? If you're gonna use that lame excuse you can just leave now, ma'am."
I almost laughed. But of course I did not, that is unprofessional. So instead I approached him calmly and cruelly. "Well, sir, I can assure you I am not some great relative of the presidents, but my family is quite special." I said with a sweet smile. "I did not come to buy some of your mediocre, cheap, lame, average games. I came to pick up my reserved game Bōken Online."
"Yeah, yeah." Said the obnoxiously dimwitted man. "And what did you say your name was again? I'll check for this, so called, reserved game."
"Ah, thank you, sir." I smiled sweetly once more, "My name is Akemae Korizumi."
He rolled his eyes and looked at an older computer on his desk. I could see him typing in my name ever so slowly. He eventually clicked the 'Enter' button and the screen buzzed steadily. "Korizumi, Korizumi..." Mumbled the man quietly to himself. "Here we go. So you do have it reserved. Sorry for the mistake madam." He said , finally showing me the proper respect.
"No problem." I said. "Now could you give me my game, please?" I was beginning to get annoyed of the hundred of others pushing around me trying to get to the desk, even if it meant throwing me out of the way.
"Yeah, here you go." He handed me a sleek looking video game case with the title scribbled in neat, tight writing 'Bōken Online'. "Oh Bōken Online, eh? that's one of my best sellers right now. It's what everyone else is buying. I hear there is only a limited amount of copies though."
"Yes, yes. Very interesting. Do you have my Bōken Gear too? I'd rather not stand in front of all these people all day." I snapped irritably. The people behind me were really getting on my nerves. Perhaps if I wasn't in that horrid line, I would have been a little nicer.
"You don't have to be so-" He stopped himself suddenly, "I-I mean, yes ma'am, I am sorry to irritate you, ma'am. Your Bōken Gear is right here, also reserved." He gave me a rude glare but handed me my Bōken gear.
The Bōken gear looked much like regular tinted sunglasses. There was only one difference. The Bōken gear had technical wires located in the sides of the glasses and were unbreakable. Once you put on the Bōken gear, you were in a whole new world. The virtual one. The Bōken gear allowed you to hear, see, and feel what happened inside the game. Such a wonderful way to spend your time opposed to sitting around and doing nothing in the large mansion.
I took the glasses without another word and stumbled through the crowd full of yelling men and woman ranging from twelve year-olds to forty year-olds. People bumped into me rudely and I very nearly slapped some of the rudder ones, but I managed to hold myself back. Just get home, I thought to myself.
As soon as I managed to get through the large and rough crowd, I darted onto the open street. "What obnoxious jerks." I sneered. I dusted off my expensive designer clothes though there was no obvious specks of dirt.
I took the short cut to my family's large mansion. The Korizumi mansion stood towering above all the other houses by at least two floors. I simply rolled my eyes at its largeness. It could've been bigger. I thought bitterly.
I walked inside and kicked off my shoes. I removed my pristine white jacket and hung it on a coat rack. I began to walk up the stairs when I was stopped by my butler, Sebastian.
"Hello, ma'am." Sebastian smiled. Sebastian was a darker man, he had dark black hair, dark blue eyes, and a darker personality.
"Good evening, Sebastian." I sighed. I was straining to get to my room where I could play Bōken Online.
"Would you like your evening coffee madam?" He offered an elegant looking cup filled to the brink with a thick smelling black substance.
"No thank you. But please do have it sent to my room in about an hour or two." I said and waved my hand around.
"I can tell you want to go play your new game. I shall let you go then. Just be warned, I heard there were some bugs in that game, Bōken Online." There was something creepy in his smile, but I decided to ignore it.
"Thank you..." I said quietly and slowly descended up the pearl white stairs.
I wasn't sure what Sebastian was talking about, and I had a terrible gut feeling that I didn't want to find out. Despite his warning, I decided to take out my Bōken gear. I stared at the tinted glasses for a moment and slid in the tiny game chip into the compartment on the right.
I layed on my large queen sized bed and sighed. "Good bye reality." I said, and put on the glasses. I didn't realize what a huge mistake I had made.
