Brayden held the cold metal gun to his head. His shaky finger began to pull the trigger. He heard the click and squeezed his eyes shut prepared for the bullet. Instead the gun began steadily clicking. Confused and a bit frustrated Brayden looked at the side of the gun. it showed a timer counting 30 days, that’s when the bullet would fire. Tick Tick Tick….He threw the gun on his bed. Slipping a pair of old shoes on, he grabbed a hoodie and pushed through the wooden front door. He needed to clear his mind of everyone and everything.

The grey, cloudy sky matched perfectly with brayden’s mood. he shoved his hand in his pockets with his head down. The local park was not far from his house. The crunch of leaves surrounded Brayden as he walked along the paved path. He was so done with life. He lost everything that mattered to him. The day his life  changed was about 6  months ago. The day he lost the person who stuck by him no matter what. The day his life went downhill. When his best friend lost her battle to cancer. This day was May 24th. This day was still so vivid. It hurt him just to think about time.

Charlotte Ariel Johanson. Such a beautiful name  for a beautiful girl. He often called her charlie. charlie just seemed to fit her personality so well. That name still brings a smile to his saddened face.

The wind began picking up. BRayden looked up taking in the scenery of the park. He couldn’t help but notice a girl sitting on the rustic bench reading. That same blonde hair as Charlotte. The same warm smile. Brayden began walking over to her. He couldn't help it.

“I-I’m sorry to bother you but you looked like someone I used to know”

The girl looked up, her Blue eyes sparkling as a smile spread across her face. His warm chocolate eyes met her baby blues. It was a perfect moment that he didn’t want to end.

A warm feeling filled the pit of Brayden’s stomach and for the first time in months he didn’t feel so alone.

The next week brayden leaned down and reached his arm under the bed. The place where he hid the gun when Mackenzie came over.  he called her Mac. Mac seemed to fit her personality so well.

He peered at the side of the gun.Tick Tick Tick. 21 days left. That’s all he had to wait. He heard footsteps and knew it was Mac coming over for lunch. He shoved the gun back under the bed and ran out the room to greet her.

Mac usually came over almost everyday. Watching movies on rainy days and Going to the park on sunny ones. Mac and Brayden had a connection no one could describe. Even though Mac was a year older than Brayden they still saw each other in the halls which made Brayden’s day of course.

It’s been 2  1/2 weeks since Mac and Brayden have met. “Thanks again for the lunch Brayden” Mac said grabbing his hand.

“anytime Mac” Brayden led Mac out the front door.

“Come over tomorrow Ok? Does 12:30 work?”

“That’s perfect” MAc looked up at bright blue sky. The sky matching her eyes perfectly. Wow. She was gorgeous. How did i get so lucky? He thought to himself.

“We can pack a picnic basket tomorrow and go to the park. It will be beautiful outside.”

“Ok I have to go. My mom’s calling me. Love you”

“Love you more”, said Brayden as he leaned in and placed a soft kiss on her cheek.

After Brayden said goodbye to Mac and sprinted up the narrow stairway. He opened his bedroom door and made his way across the room. He bent over and reached under the bed. When his fingers touched the gun he wrapped his hand around it and pulled it out.Tick Tick Tick. Only 6 more days left. He threw it back under and called Mac. He loved talking to her.
