BACKGROUND: Joo-yeong has had a pretty normal yet happy background, being born in Seattle as a healthy Cambodian-American baby. Her mom being Cambodian-Vietnamese while her dad is American-Canadian. She doesn't have any blood-related siblings to grow up with in the past 15 years, but she managed the loneliness with singing Khmer and English nursery songs. While she was still a small young child, Joo-yeong would sing with her mother and father in utter happiness to have fun.

In middle school when she was 12, she joined in a dance class out of curiosity, meeting some other children and her dance teacher that she'd practice with. Joo-yeong still continued to sing though, finding joy in it as well in dancing. She would come in the dance class and practice in there after school to improve her dance skills. A talent show competition came up, making her wanting to test out her dancing skills to show people what she can do. She participated in the competition with her choreography that she and the dance teacher practiced that they both made up with the song 'Lifted' by CL. Joo-yeong won the competition which made her eyes widened from shock, but soon smiled because of the hard work she put into the choreography payed off. She was happy nonetheless and made some friends, friends to play around with and friends to practice with.

Joo-yeong at the age of 15 moved to Ulsan, wanting to pursue her dreams of being an idol. She was upset that she wouldn't see her friend's but continued to be confident in making some other friend's in South Korea. She was nervous not just because of being in a new school, but because she was only semi-fluent in her Hangul, plus because of her slightly tan skin, but made some friends to teach her and accept who she is. A talent show was being held open at the time, and of course she'd participate with a different audition, a choreography to CRUSH's Oasis. She didn't win but she wasn't a sore loser like the other participants. She was a little upset about losing the competition, that she admits, but she knows that one day she'll get better and smiled it all off.

Joo-yeong wanted to be an idol so badly, she signed up in two different auditions for two different entertainments, Fantagio Ent. And Starship Ent. Now, you may have guessed which entertainment she got accepted in, right?
