I walked between some tree's and there they stood. Maisy, George and a sleepy Joey was talking to an officer. I felt my heart break a little just by looking at what I had called my family. George held his arm around Maisy' small shoulders. Joey was wearing some sweatpants and a black tee-shirt. He must be cold as ice! I ran over to him and put my jacket over the poor, little boy's shoulders. He was only seven years old.. And I was so used to call him funny nicknames and stuff like: jokie, turtle or chubby, even though he wasn't chubby at all.
I stood up and all eyes was on me. How creepy. I looked at Maisy and George. Maisy' eyes was blood shoot with mascara all over her beautiful face. Blond hair glued to her cheeks. Her grey cardigan was hanging loose over the flowered, knee length, yellow dress. My heart shattered. Had I caused her this pain?
George also had blood shoot eyes. His shirt was wrinkled and dirty. His jeans was dirty too. The grey hair on his head stood in every possible direction. It was weird that it wasn't perfectly gelled.
Before I knew it I was in an embrace by Maisy and Joey. George just stood there like he couldn't believe his eyes. I hugged back and tried to calm the crying woman.
"Don't run away again!" Maisy said and cried a little more. "I wont.." I said in all regret. I was gonna run away sometime, because I promised. I promised River. But how? I was so busy spending all my time thinking about Maisy, George, Joey and River that I totally forgot to think about something even more important right now. My REAL parents.
I din't know them! My thoughts was spinning all around my head. "I don't know them!" I shouted to Maisy and let go of her warm hug. My tears flowed. "Who are they? Who are my parents?!" I shouted. No one answered. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. Everything was quiet. Even the dogs were quiet. "You know what? I can't handle this anymore!" I cried. "Paz, we can talk about this.." George said.
"Did Joey know?" I said quickly. "Know what?" Joey said innocent. "No" Maisy said and looked down. "Know what?!" Joey said louder. He looked upset. "I'm not your sister Joey.." I said. "Nooo!!" Joey cried and hugged me tight. When he let go of me, he turned to Maisy and George and said he hated them. Then he ran off...
I ran after him and grabbed his wrist. He span around and the tears streamed down his face. "Joey...Don't cry." I lifted my hands up to his cheeks and picked up the tears with my thumbs. "Is it true? That you aren't my r-real sis-ster?" I nodded and I hugged him tight. He cried into my neck. "Shh... We'll go back home now, and you need to sleep!" We started to walk back, but Joey's feet made heavy steps. I picked him up and he fell asleep after 10 seconds. He looked so peaceful in his sleep. His blonde hair laid over his eyes like to cover them from the terrible world outside his dreams.
I came back to the spot where Maisy and George stood. They looked like they could hug me, when they saw Joey sleeping in my arms, but they didn't. They knew I would just go away from the embrace. Goerge took Joey from me and walked away. Maisy stood there for a minute before she followed. I took a last glance over the place before I followed after. I looked at the tree house where the handsome, mysterious boy called River lived.
--------------------------------
I woke up by the sunlight trough the curtains. I could feel my nose was clogged because of the cold air in my room. I wasn't that mad at George and Maisy now, but I really wanted to know who my parents were.
I went down the stairs and into the kitchen. There stood Maisy and George. It smelled like coffee and my eyes told me I was right. Maisy had a pink, long dress. Her blond curls was in a ponytail. George had his hair perfectly gelled back and a grey wool sweater even if the sun was burning outside.
"Hi, sweetie! We are going out tonight with some friends. Can you watch out after Joey?" It was a kind of funny how they still acted like I was their daughter. "Okay." George looked on the top of my head, not in my eyes. Maisy played with the tip of her ponytail like a freak. Okay, something is up and I want to know what they aren't telling me.
"What is going on?" I said and raised my eyebrows. "What?" Maisy and George said in union. "Nothing", I said. I could see they were lying.
Two hours later they said goodbye to me and Joey and left. I decided to follow after them because I knew they lied to me. I could not trust them anymore. I put on my mustard colored converse', slung my jacket over my shoulder and was to leave right before a seven years old boy noticed me. "Where are you going?" Joey asked.
"..Ehhm.. I just have to do something.. You can be home alone for a little while, right Joey?" I said and tried to smile. I got panick because Maisy and George left minutes ago. But they didn't drive, so I was lucky. I walked out the door. I saw Maisy and George walking down the road. I ran closer to them without making any sounds. I was so close that I could actually hear them talking. "I can't wait to see them again!" I heard Maisy said. "Yeah, it's been a while", George laughed.
They walked in a few more minutes, then they walked up to a small, romantic, whitepainted house. The garden had a swing and some old toys in it. The windows were small and I bet it was a candle in every single one. Maisy and George walked up to the door and knocked on it. The door opened and a sillhouette showed up and let them inside. I was about to walk closer to the house and look through the windows, when the door opened and a boy walked out. I ran behind some bushes and waited for him to walk away.
He was tall. His hair was in a dark, brown quiff like some kind of supermodel. He had a jacket made of jean, and a black t-shirt. The strong smell of perfume was a bit to much for me. I sneezed... The boy stopped in his track and looked around. I wished I had the power to make myself invisible. I hid a little better behind the bush.
After about 2 minutes he walked away. I sighed in relief. That was close. Too close. Who was that? I was so tired of lies. I decided to find out what Maisy and George were doing in there. I walked slowly to one of the small windows without a sound. I could bearly see through it. It was very blurry, but I could see a George and another man.
He was tall, just like that boy who came out the door and almost caught me. That was all I could see through the small window before someone came out the door. My heart stopped. It was the same boy. He saw me. I had no clue what to do. Suddenly it looked like he pretended he didn't see me.
I ran as fast as I could away from their little house not far from us.
