Can we just back up one second, I can't get my head around the fact that five seconds ago I was standing on the sidewalk, safe. I don't know what happened in between that moment and five seconds later when i found myself flying through the air after being hit by the cold, impersonal grille of a hummer. In those seconds in which I was seemingly suspended for a brief instant in mid air, I could have sworn the driver smiled, the kind of smile you never want to see. The insane smile of a person who just hit a 16 year old girl and is now watching her sail through the air like some large improbable rag doll. This was the day my life ended, it ended with a loud and rather satisfyingly gruesome crunch as my neck broke upon impact with the pavement. I looked up at the starry night sky as my last breath rattled in my chest, with what I can imagine was a slightly surprised expression on my face, not because I had just been hit by a gas guzzling monster of a vehicule, but because I couldn't even remember how I had gotten to this part of town. My name is Natalie Therault, and this is the beginning of the end. How did I end up sprawled on the pavement, neck bent at an impossible angle as the hummer sped off into the night? I guess that's what I'm here to find out.
