When I first saw it I was amazed, it was beautiful, it was mine. There was nobody else in the cave, I waited, but still nothing came. His big green eyes, his red scaled wings, his long pointed tail, it was a dragon.
I couldn't believe my eyes. Why was it here? Was it lost? I had no clue were it came from or why it came, but I felt attached to it, like it was a magnet and I was metal. I wanted to bring it home, but how could I? My mom was visiting a sick relative, and my father probably wouldn't trust me on my own any more if I came home with a dragon.
So I kept him in the cave and said I'd be back soon, it took me a while after I left to realise I just tried to speak with a dragon. I continued walking and quietly scolding myself when I saw my father. "Hello Sarah!" he said cheerfully. My daddy is a Blacksmith, and he's really good too. I feel really close to my dad, he understands me. I don't want him to think that he can't trust me, and that's why I can't tell him about the dragon- he might feel worried that it will hurt me or that next time I go to the cave I'll find a even scarier creature.
After talking to dad about the promotion he just got, I went to the bakery to find some scraps of food to feed my new friend- the dragon. I wonder what to name it, I'm guessing it's a "he" and I really don't want to check, so I'll just name him uh- maybe something like Fire breather or big red, ya, I'll be working on the name situation for a while.
When I got to the bakery the first one to greet me was Chase, my best friends cat, he was a big and fat cat who loves people. I scratched him behind the ears and he purred loudly, then my friend Jessica came out from the other room. "What is it chase?" said Jessica. "Oh," she said as she noticed me,"Hi Sarah!" "Hello Jessica, how are you?" I replied. "I'm great, thanks. So, what brings you here?" she asked. " I was wondering if you have any scraps of bread or something." I answered. "Sorry, I just gave them to the cat, he really loves them." she said. Then the cat looked up at me with a twinkle in his eye. "It's okay. Thanks anyways." I said, trying not to sound too disappointed.
I guess I'll have to find food some where else, I just hope the dragon dosen't starve to death before I find him food. Now that I think of it, Bread scraps probably aren't the best thing to feed a dragon. He'd probably prefer a rabbit or something. I guess I could try to catch one, since I have nothing else to do.
The best spot to find a rabbit, not a question I can answer with ease but I can check the vegetable garden just in case. Or maybe I can look near my grand mothers farm, I always see rabbits when I go there. I'll check grand ma's first since it's closer then if there's no luck at grand ma's I'll look in the garden.
After checking at grand ma's farm, I had no luck, I really hope that there's a rabbit at the vegetable garden. If there isn't I'll have to go out to the forest and look there, I hate the forest, it has bears, foxes and snakes. Yuck!
As I walked past the bakery I saw a Young and strong looking man with dark eyes, a buzz cut and a formal looking uniform. He walked out of the bakery carrying some delicious looking cinnamon rolls. They must of cost a fortune, but I bet they're worth it.
I finally got to the vegetable garden, and saw a huge rabbit! I was so exited, when I realised I had no way to catch it I was so disapointed. "Oh house rats!" I cursed, scaring off my dragons dinner. Now I have to go to the forest, I hate that spooky and wild place, it gives me chills just thinking about it.
Now I must go to the last place I would ever want to go, the forest. With it's lack of sunlight and it's gloomy, mossy trees that grow as high as mountains. Oh, what a horrid place to be, but here I am, staring into the darkness. I hope I come out alive. I took a big breath, and stepped into the dark spooky mass of trees.
As I walked through the forest, I saw small snakes, and hoped that they were the biggest the forest has, because if they aren't, I'm in big trouble. I walked faster and faster, Looking for something to kill a rabbit with, so when I find the rabbit I don't go through the vegetable garden situation all over again. There was a strong looking stick peeking out from behind a tree, when I went to grab it I heard a noise, what could it be? When I turned around I saw a cage, I coulden't see what was in it so I carefully stepped towards it. Inside I saw a... rabbit! What luck I had, first I find a dragon, now a perfect rabbit to feed it. The rabbit was alive, but since it was in a cage, I didn't have to kill it. Sadly, the dragon would take care of that.
I started to take it back to the cave when I heard two voices. "Where did it go?" Said one voice. He must of been looking for the rabbit. "I don't know, but it couldn't of gone too far, it must be close by, you look this way and I'll go over there." said the other voice. It was the man I saw at the bakery. I ran as quickly and quietly as I could to get away from them before they saw me. I was terrified, what if I got caught?
I was almost out of sight when the man from the bakery yelled "Look over there!" He saw me! I ran as fast as I could, they couldn't see me very well in the bad lighting of the forest so I used it as an advantage. When I get into the village they wouldn't recognise me. It felt like miles before I got into the village, but when I did, they were still close so I hid the rabbit behind a bush and then I sat on an old bench near by. When the men came running by they didn't notice me! Yes! I escaped from them. Now I just have to get to the cave before dark.
I grabbed the cage from behind the bush, then I headed towards the cave, the sun had began to set, but there was still lots of light. I ran for a while more, but the 'Great chase' had been more than enough running for me at this hour. As I walked by the cottage I ducked my head so my dad wouldn't see me through the window and tell me it's time to come inside for dinner, I wouldn't have an excuse for why and how I have this rabbit, or where was I taking it, or why I can't eat dinner yet. Even thought I'm starving, I have to do this, besides, if I don't ,I'll feel guilt and worry all night.
I was almost at the cave when I realised that it was getting dark, I really have to hurry, or else my father will be worried about me. I hate it when I get my dad worried, I don't like losing his trust which I work hard on earning.
Once I reached the cave I was so happy that I didn't notice that there was a pile of small bones on the cave floor, the bones were about the size of a rabbits bones. "Looks like you found some food on your own." I said. "Well, at least you have breakfast for tomorrow." I said, thinking of all the work I did getting him food, not knowing that he was very capable of finding food for himself.
As I started walking home, it came across my mind that, the dragon has wings! I can fly with him! I'd go on his back, and he would soar through the air, I'll be the fist person to fly! It would be so nice to soar through the air. I can't wait to come back tomorrow!
Once I came back down to earth, the sun was down completely and it was dark. If I wasn't so close to my cottage, I might of not been able to get home, but I was very close so I just ran home and went inside. My father noticed me right away. "Not the best timing." he said to me, as he sipped whatever was in his mug. "I know. Sorry papa, I'm only late because it took me a long time to walk back from where I was hanging out today." I lied, it hurt to lie to my dad, but I can't tell him it's because the dragon that I stole a rabbit for, already found food and I wasn't aware of that so I delivered it a rabbit he didn't need. After that we ate our late dinner, and went to bed.
That night as I drifted of to sleep, I thought about how it would be like to fly on a dragon, I really, really want to fly, just imagine what I could do with a flying dragon, I'd be famous, I'd have lots of fun and the dragon would get lots of exercise. I'll try to fly him tomorrow, but now it's time to get some sleep.
