We arrived at my cousin's mansion and got out of the car. There was a chauffer that helped us with our gowns
We were welcomed with loud classical music that soothes my ears.
"Here you go dear" my mom spoke. She was holding her hand out.
My eyes sparkled when I laid my eyes on the thing on her palm.
It was a mask. It was covered in silver glitter and at the side there was a blue butterfly. It was simple but beautiful.
"What's this for?"
"For you to wear of course. This is a masquerade ball after all"
You didn't mention it
We went to our table and sat down
"Good evening everyone" A loud voice spoke. I looked at where it came from and saw my uncle speaking on the mic.
"Thank you all for coming to my dear daughters birthday. May I ask everyone to rise to welcome my beautiful daughter, Elaiza Roswell"
Elaiza went down the grand staircase wearing a beautiful magenta gown. All eyes were on her.
How does she stay calm with all the eyes staring at her?
Everyone clapped their hands when she reached the bottom of the staircase. I clapped my hands because I was amazed by how she got down safely without tripping on her heels.
She thanked everyone and the party then started.
Everyone went to the dance floor to dance while I just remained seated. I suddenly felt a presence beside me and saw the birthday girl seated on the seat beside mine. I was then attacked by a suffocating hug by her
"Zen! I'm so honored to see you here! You don't usually go to things like these and you even dressed up!" She looked me up and down
"Well I was practically forced" I then looked at my mom who was chatting with other women her age.
"I don't care. I'm just glad you're here my little sister" She hugged me once more.
She calls me her little sister because she's an only child, so am I, and she always wanted a sister and that eventually became my role. But it's fine. I love her anyways
"C'mon it's time to dance"
"I don't dance"
"Oh you're not fooling anyone Zen. You started dancing since you were like 5 so no denying. And it's my birthday so for me please?" She started doing her puppy eyes thing.
She knows I can't say no to that
"Okay okay fine. Just one dance."
She looked around and shouted a name. It was an Ivan. A man in a mask started walking toward us
"Ivan, this is my cousin Zeniah. Can you dance with her for me?"
"Sure" His voice was familiar
The man called 'Ivan' held my hand and led me to the middle. We started swaying to the music.
I don't know what's wrong with me but I suddenly felt hot and tingly.
I didn't pay much attention to it. We just danced in comfortable silence. Just listening to the music being played.
The dance was interrupted when someone tapped on the mic. I think it was the host of the party.
"It is now time for all the guests to remove your masks. Thank you"
I looked at the man in front of me and saw that he was removing his mask so I followed. I slowly removed mine and looked at the man I danced with.
"We meet again miss"
