Sadie finally got around to moving out of her childhood home in Albany and into the city. It was mid January, and it felt just that way. The echo of Sadie's heeled boots bounced off the parking garage walls, where every echo seems louder than it needs to be. Her face was red and cold, especially her nose and ears, but at least her frizzed hair covered her ears. She stuffed her hands in the pocket of the OBEY hoodie she stole from her ex two years ago. She hadn't dated since, the poor girl hadnt even hooked up with anyone since her birthday right after being dumped. She exited the garage and was looking out for the correct apartment building. The movers already notified her that everything was hauled inside. She wiped the warm tears that formed when she closed her cold, dry eyes and coughed, it felt like frost grew inside her wheezing lungs. She found her building, politely shook the snow out of her hair and knocked off any excess from her shoes and stepped inside. She found herself at her apartment, unsurprisingly high up and her boxes were on the floor, most of them damaged in one way or another.
"Awesome...assholes." She sighed to herself at the sight of her ruined things.
She was content in her new quiet sorroundings, simply exploring when something not so quiet caught her attention. Bass boomed under her feet. Unlike most people she decided to ignore it and ran a hot bath to warm her cold body, it was about 10 pm and she had been driving all day, the bass made ripples in the water, she watched it distort her body and she pulled her head underneath. The bass was still audible under the water, it sounded different though, less aggressive. Sadie pulled back up and gasped for air, she moved her thick, brown, now wet hair onto her back, pulling her hairline to a widow's peak. She balmed it, waited 5 minutes, and went under again, listening to the bass ad stroking her hair. She came back up, stood and drained the tub. Her once warm body was cold again due to the contrast in air temperature. Sweatpants, a sports bra, and a pullover with her hair wrapped up in a towel was her idea of heaven at the time so she decided to treat herself with it. The bass stopped suddenly and she heard distant footsteps then 5 fast, light knocks on her door. Great, neighbors. Sadie went to her door, unlocked it and tried to put on a happy face before she opened it.
"Hi!" She greeted the man at my door simply and sweetly.
"Hey, you're the new neighbor?" He sparked up a conversation.
"Yeah, I'm Sadie Dunkirk." She stuck her hand for him to shake, he was cute, 5'10" and smelled like cigarettes.
"Geotge Miller, you can call me Joji." He shook her hand and smiled. "Sorry about the music, I didn't realize you were already here."
"Oh it's no problem, it made good ambiance for my bath." She blushed at her awkward comment. He saw the blush and chuckled.
"How old are you?" He asked.
"I'm 22. Aaaand just now moving out of my parents' place." Sadie wasn't necessarily embarrassed, but she also didn't want to explain why it took so long.
"Dude, nice. Well, I should be getting back and you should be getting some sleep. Feel free to swing by, I'd love to hang out sometime." He started walking backwards and waving.
"Me too, bye Joji." She smiled and closed the door and did what he told her to, sleep.
