I walk slowly next to my cousin. We talk back and forth on our way to the park. We continue talking as we see someone walking towards us.
"Is that him Katie?" I question my cousin as we near the stranger.
"I think so. I can't tell." Katie states squinting her eyes at the stranger. I look down at my phone. "That's him." She says smiling towards me.
I look up from my phone to see a guy about 8-10 inches taller than me near us. He has longish blonde hair, brown eyes, a nice build. He walks up to Katie and they hug. They smile at each other for a second. He looks down at me and nods lightly.
"Gabe this is Sophia." Katie gestures towards me. Gabe towers over me he smiles.
"Hi," Gabe says walking next to Katie.
"Hi," I whisper I walk behind them playing a game on my phone. I kick snow up and it hits the back of Gabe's jacket. He stops walking and turns around. Gabe bends down grabbing snow and throws it at me, hitting my chest.
I pick up more snow after we begin to walk again, I silently grin as I throw the snowball and it hits him in the head. He once again stops walking and grabs snow. I take off running towards a snow pile that still remains. As I reach the snow pile I hear the snowball break against the cement, and it splatters onto my legs. I giggle and throw a snowball back. It misses him by far and hits the ground with a quiet thud. I grab another small snowball with my bare hands and throw it towards Gabe. It hits Gabe's legs and I celebrate.
"YES!" I brag, jumping up and down. I walk down the side of the pile slowly. I step on a patch of ice once I reach the bottom, I step forward and my foot comes out from under me. "Ah," I scream out of surprise. My head hits the snow behind me coating my hair in white dust and my butt lands on the cold ice. "Damnit." I laughed shaking my head to get rid of the snow.
We continue to walk and as we arrive at the park Gabe, Katie, and I sit on the benches. I browse Facebook for a few minutes while Gabe talks to Katie. I hear shuffling and look up to see Gabe and Katie walking towards the park. I stand to put my phone in my pocket. I run in front of them and to the jungle gym. I smile as Gabe kicks woodchips up at me. I slide down the slide and grab a handful of woodchips.
"Hey," I say looking for Gabe. "Gabe!" I finish, he reveals his position and as I pull my arm back his eyes go wide as he guards his face.
"Ah!" Gabe shrieks as the wooden pellets hit him. He bends down picking up more wood chips.
"Shit," I mumbling knowing he has bigger hands than I do therefore he will have more wood chips. I laugh as I take off running. I get hit by a few wood chips. I grab my handful as I hear Gabe running on the jungle gym above me. I jump out from under the jungle gym. He freezes as he sees me and ducks behind a wall. "You uh got yourself a little trapped up there didn't you?" I laugh throwing handful after handful at him.
"Yup." He sighs as I throw a last handful up at him.
I run up towards him and he jumps down from the jungle gym. He grabs two handfuls and throws them both at me.
"Seems like you're the one who's unarmed now," Gabe says smirking evilly. He pelts me with woodchips. I slowly make my way down the jungle gym staying behind cover getting pelted every now and then.
I hop down off the jungle gym landing on my feet. When I land I fill my grasp with wood chips one last time. I slowly creep around the playground looking for Gabe. I spot him over by the monkey bars talking to Katie. I slowly approach him and chuck the last handful of woodchips at his back. He screeches and runs off towards the soccer field. I pick up a stick and throw it at him. It taps his back and bounces back towards me.
He pauses and picks up the stick. After, he continues running to the field. I run behind him but, he is too fast. He makes it to Katie and lays on the ground next to her. I catch up with him and Katie. I sit in front of him. We tug on back and forth on the stick for a few minutes before he lets go. I tumble backward throwing the stick into a small valley covered with weeds. I sigh and sit back down in front of Gabe again.
Gabe starts making noises. Noises that only aliens make. I laugh at the strange child. Then proceed to copy the noises. Katie sits on Gabe's back and scrolls through Facebook. This goes on for a while until Gabe has to leave. We walk to where we first met and went our separate ways.
But, something was different from a few hours before. I had a different feeling. I couldn't stop thinking about Gabe. He was special, he had so many different qualities. Funny, energetic, and smart. Everything a girl looks for in a guy. Him being cute was a bonus, along with him being taller than me. Alas, I come to the end of my story of how I first met my Boo, or as you know him, Gabe.
