everything seemed to go in slow-motion for a moment. we locked eyes, and i basked in his beauty. his curly, brown hair that fell in perfect ringlets onto his forehead. his deep brown eyes that held a lifetime of memories. the rosiness in his cheeks, and the sparkle that his teeth emulated when he smiled was overwhelming to me.
i was brought back to life by a vibration coming from my phone.
as my dad was unloading the u-haul, i found myself engulfed in my own mind, replaying that same moment in my head. i hoped with all my heart that he was in my grade, and that we went to the same school. words cannot explain how beautiful that boy on the blue trampoline was.
*time skip to after the unloading*
as i finally placed the last box in my room, i heard a ring on the doorbell. knowing my mother was likely unloading boxes and my deadbeat father was sleeping, i ran towards the front door. i quickly yelled to my mother, "i'll get it!" and opened the door. and there he was, the boy on the blue trampoline.
"hey," he remarked briskly, "i'm jack. jack grazer. and you are?"
i suddenly snapped into a daze. the contrast of the sunlight behind him and the shade provided by the porch accentuated his features perfectly, bringing out the contours of his bone structure. my god, he was so stunning. i thought.
"hey. i'm ariana, but you can call me ari for short," i responded, scolding myself in my mind for letting my "hood accent" shine through.
"so, ari, where are you from?" he asked, running his hand through his hair. christ, i'm a sucker for when guys touch their hair.
"i'm from chicago- well, near chicago rather"
"yo, i have a friend from there! his name's wyatt, i'll have to introduce you two sometime. anyways, ari, when do you begin school?" he asked, and my heart began beating out of my chest. he made my name sound heavenly.
"i start in 4 days, so monday."
"that's dope, school & grade?" he asked.
"central high school, junior year." i remarked, hoping to god we were in the same grade.
"that's perfect," he said with a wink, "we're in the same grade."
"alright grazer, looks like you'll be my guide to central high school," i said, sending a grin his way.
"alright, i better dip before my mom freaks. text me sometime, will you?" he asked, reaching his hand out to take my phone.
i gave him my phone and as he put his number in it, i found myself staring at him, nearly in a trance.
"see you later ariana," he replied, all while giving me my phone and walking away.
