"hey kaylee, wait up!" eddie yells and i turn back.
"yes?" i ask.
"i can walk you home, it's not safe you know, with all the missing kids." he explains.
"thanks for caring eddie." i smile and he blushes.
"i care for all my friends." he smiles.
"especially when they're near germs." he starts.
"germaphobe?" i ask.
"well, not too much, but it's pretty bad. like my mother always warned me about all the diseases that get spread everyday from germs. it's really quite gross."
"your mother must care a lot." i say.
"of course, yours doesn't?" he asks.
and it floods back. all of it. all the memories, happy and sad, mostly sad, but im not going to get into that, not now anyways.
"my moms not around any more eddie." i say.
"oops sorry, your dad must certainly care though right?" he asks.
i can't get mad, he doesn't know. he couldn't know, the reason i moved here, was to escape that.
"i live with my step-brother eddie." i say.
"that's not legal, is it?"
"does it matter?" i ask.
"no, of course not. i was just-"
"it's fine eddie, you didn't know. i just, i would appreciate it if you didn't ask or mention that again." i say sadly.
"o-o-o-okay." he says.
"ahh, that stutter. bill who?" i tease as he turns a bright shade of red.
"heyyy." he says laughing too.
"it's alright, i think bills stutter is adorable." i smile thinking of him.
"hey can I ask you a question?" he says.
"you just did." i laugh but notice he's still serious.
"sure eds, what's up?"
"do you, um, like bill." he asks. why was he asking if i liked bill? why did he care?"
"yes i like bill, he's my friend." i respond.
"no, i mean, like like, as in more than a friend." he says.
"oh, i don't know, ive never thought about him in that way." i answer.
"oh." is all he says.
"why?" i ask.
he's about to speak but his watch beeps and he takes his pills out.
"why do you need so many?" i ask.
"well you see.." he starts and proceeds to rant about the dangers of germs and bacteria. and he shows me his antibiotics and allergy pills.
"wait a minute." i say grabbing something out of his pocket.
"you're the wheezer, aka asthma boy." i say looking at his inhaler.
"ive actually heard a lot about you, just not with your name." i say.
all the kids at school talked about that one annoying boy and his inhaler, and how he pulled it out at the most unnecessary times.
"yup, that's me, sadly." he says.
"bowers gave you that name?" i ask.
"yeah."
"what a jerk." i say.
"true."
"well, this is my house." i say as we approach my driveway.
"ill see you tomorrow kaylee?" he asks.
"of course." i giggle and walk inside, when my whole mood is ruined.
